Hey all, before i jump onto my scheme for imperial guard, i went to DOW and put up an esitmated guess on what it looks like. what im asking is how could i achieve these colours and your thoughts on it etc.

The armour looks pretty straight forward, basecoat with a 2:1 mix of regal blue and black then a wash and then a drybrush of regal blue on top of that and finish off with a higlight.

(This advice is purely academical I haven't attempted this so I recomend you try it on something worthless first)

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter.

ive got plenty of test models to make it work. I'll give that shot tonight actually. would you reccomend black/white undercoat?

For that a black undercoat would be better. And for the grey/white bit I would do codex grey then fortress grey then 1:1 fortress grey skull white, and then a highlight.

Guilliman and the Ultramarines are like Manchester United, everyone hates them because they are so awesome!

I beg to differ. The colors yes no doubt there. Don't dry brush, it is pointless only because most of the armor is flat. the dry brush will just highlight the edge and put strokes on the surface. so use the colors and then layer up and highlight on the edge. drybrush should be done effectively on rough surfaces

ha, I've literally just started an IG army with the same colour scheme in mind. I'm going to use necron abyss for the blue base colour though.

I've used army painter grey spray for the undercoat for the fabric parts of the model, and black spray for the rest (face, weapon, torso). I'm hoping to get my first one painted up today or tomorrow so will happily post in this thread if you are interested.

definately! i would like to see the results, i dont have necron abyss at the moment as i tried regal blue. unfortunately the colour is too purple to my likings, ive only tested out the armour colour on a shoulder pad (lazy..) and the method went

Regal blue > Regal blue/Enchanted blue highlight > black wash.

ill attempt to work on it some more tonight.

My scheme is very similar, except the grey pants have a black/white/shadow grey camo scheme

Star ship trooopersss! Black and grey fits nice, but if you wanna stick with this you should try adding a blue tiger shark camo to the cloth to really make the army look really great, but that would take forever... I know I did it for my Orks...

Here is mine. Excuse the poor photography, I live in a lightless environment so photo quality is usually poor.

This is necron abyss blue, highlighted with regal and ultramarine blue. The grey is army painter grey spray. The colourscheme is designed to be very very fast to paint so that I can get a whole army out quickly. This was the test model so took a few extra steps and changes, but overall it took 1 hour 45 minutes for the base coat and shading, and about 1 hour 45 minutes to do the highlighting. I can probably get it down to 2.5 hours per model at this standard with an assembly line.

I put the wrong knife on the rear - it should be an empty one as the knife is attached as a bayonet, but I'll sort it out later when I've painted some more. Dont expect a project log for quite some time though as this was just a test. I am not going to start painting them until July at the very earliest.

i like the blue, really need to get hold of that necron abyss. ive changed my mind towards the colour scheme, unfortunately with my test model i overdid the white as its more as a main colour than a highlight but ill fix that later on. With the blue ive tested 2 colours, one a dark regal blue and another is a grey/blue colour. both look good but im having second thoughts on the colour scheme. (i have the pictures up shortly)
