Hey guys,

Don't know if it's a no-no to mention Bolter&Chainsword here, but they have put together a really interesting, fun and free pdf of homebrewed Index Astartes articles, all related to an alternate history version of the Heresy. If you are at all into 40k fluff, it is a really fun and impressively put together read, and quite hefty clocking in at the equivalent of 8 or 8 individual IA articles.

The writing is quite well done, overall it is a pretty impressive piece of work, and best of all, free for us .

Just don't post any non power armored stuff or they will find out where you live and make you regret it lol.

Cheers!

p.s- hope this is an appropriate post Alphy, no offense meant if not

You can get the thing here!

I'm a fan of it, it sort of got me back into the 40k background.

...urrrr... I dunno

I thought it was OK. Thought some of it was really quite cool, but otherwise it was a bit like those DC "What if?" comics they bring out. I prefer the original plot (with a few additions here and there, such as Dakka's own "Death of the Emperor" arc) to the alternative universe plot.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

I've been reading since yesterday, I'm blown away. I think doing a what-if of 40k is something very daring, in a lot of ways:
-this is a background book, not a campaign book with rules as the focus. Makes for a fair bit of reading, and very exciting to play "what if"
-recognizable GW format of the Adeptus Astartes articles, and well executed style overall.
-rather than scratch on a point GW made in some old book (as a campaign book may be) this is a rework of the 40k world itself. That is admirable in an age where the momentum of 40k's story is questionable.

Look forward to the second issue, this one has been a virus bomb! And eighty two pages, that's a ton of work. The crew should be proud!

I enjoyed it although I do feel they might have missed out on something with a bit more potential than a Heresy rewrite. I would have liked to see them run "Dorn's Refusal" where he tells Roboute what he can go do with his codex after the Heresy instead of backing down. Maybe someone will use that for a future idea...

I've always been a big fan of "what if" ideas and this was awesome to read, I found it myself a few weeks back and it still seems great.

I've been reading this for a few days now and I am really very impressed on how well it is put together. The artwork is very well done for the most part too. I especially liked the Tzeentch Raven Guard picture and the Khornate Space Wolf one. Some of it is a bit out there, but overall it is a very neat read. I can't wait till the finish off the rest of the Legions.

I always like Aerion the Faithful's work too. The ultramarine stuff was pretty cool too, both in terms of quality and the overall design of the new armors too!

I am a big fluff fan, no matter whether I was hobbying or not, I always was interested in the fluff.

I agree with above statements about how there were plenty of other, less obvious and more interesting what if scenarios to play with, but I think that anything was actually done is a great start.

Let's face it, this is the only way to read fluff where much of anything changes lol
