New campaign starts this week. Everyone starts at a score of 500 and goes up and down from there. We were told to bring 1850 and nothing else. Here is a picture of this week’s game description:

As you can see the deployment zones are 24”x24” which means they actually touch each other. Each side deploys one unit at a time like 4th Edition rules. I deployed my usual Speed Freaks army which I’ve been tweaking every week.
Biker Boss
Big Mek with KFF and Burna
6 Mega Nobz in Trukk with RPJ, Rokkit (not modeled), Reinforced Ram
15 Burnas in Battlewagon
12 Tankbustas, Nob with Bosspole
2 mobs of 12 Boyz, Rokkit, PK Nob Bosspole, Trukk with RPJ, Rokkit (not modeled), Reinforced Ram
12 BikerBoyz, PK Nob, Bosspole
Battlewagon with Kannon, 2 Big Shootas, DeffRolla, RPJ, Armored Plates, Grot Riggers

I went up against Ryan’s Dark Eldar again, I’ve had a bit of experience with them lately and they inspired me to add the Tankbustas.
He had and Archon with Retinue, Raiders, warriors, wyches, and the 3 Dark Lance Heavy skimmers, and a Monsterous Creature.
Here is our combined setup:

The green patches represent infinite height forest with 4+ cover saves.
BW with Mek, Mega Nobz in Trukk, and Orange and Tankbusta Mobs in Trukks all move “up and to the left, up and to the left”. Bikes with Biker Boss are forced to go around the downed skimmer into Difficult Terrain which counts as Dangerous for all bikes. Red mob plans on getting back into the trees for cover and support of other units.

His units have blown open the BW and others shot the Big Mek to gak along with his Burna mates. At this point this games is like all other’s I’ve played against Ryan’s Dark Eldar. He shoots from afar waiting for his uber unit to strike at the right time. My goal here is to make sure and capitalize on any mistakes he might make. He doesn’t make many and knows his army well and knows how to play it. It makes the game more interesting and certainly challenging. We’ll exchange fire and down each other’s transports and kill what’s inside.

My Tankbustas have exploded his Wych transport and the explosion kills most of the squad. The KFF Mek left the 4 remaining Burnas and joined orange mob to attack and kill the warriors in the trees. The 6 Mega Nobz move over and attempt to assault the shooty DE on the terrain piece but I didn’t understand the Building rules and they can’t make it this turn. The Bikes finished off his Monstrous Creature and the Boss joins Red mob in cover for a turn. He continues to shoot from afar.

His Archon Raider flies over to the left away from the rest. His gunboats and/or warriors and/or raiders killed the Tankbustas borrowed Trukk and shot up the goo inside. It’s pretty irrelevant since all his squads have a Dark Lance if possible the 3 gun gunboats have the variable fire weapons. I love the idea of assault variable fire weapons. If I played Marines or Guard, I’d stock up on missile and grenade launchers for just that reason. BTW the terrain on the left is supposed to look like a IG bunker. I need to IG-a-fy it more when I make time to do so. The Nobz take a bunch of plasma fire but thanks to cover saves, only take a single wound! The Bikes ohne Boss scream towards the wyches, wipe them out lest one who flees, then proceed toward the 3 floaty, spiky craft.

The Mega Nobz can’t roll the required amount to get up the building. Basically, my lack of play with buildings and the rules regarding them have me wasting a great assault squad on nothing. Hoisted upon my own petard. My bikes (which I’m very accustomed with) however charge ahead (bypassing his fleeing wyche) and shoot and assault his flying craft. This is where I need to watch that he moves his vehicles every turn. If not, I’m auto hitting 6 Str 10 hits to Rear Armor 10. That last sentence proves how much of a nerd I am!

Slightly different angle and a wider shot. A Trukk zooms over behind the building for table quarters reasons. Tankbustas are fleeing but have done their job well. His Archon with retinue wipes out poor ol’ Red mob. Orange mob boards a Trukk. It’s so much easier now that we don’t have to worry about dedicated transports past the deployment phase. I have no idea what KFF Big Mek is doing. He was able to shoot my Biker Boss dead last turn due to bad rolling on my part. Mega Nobz took a bunch of fire, lost 4 Nobz but were able to get in contact with his camping shooty squad. The Bike Nob and Biker Boy are still taking down vehicles.

I’m not sure why I took this picture. The only difference I can see is that the Mega Nobz cleaned out the camping shooty DE on the building. A total waste of their potential.

Archon and his boy toys assault Orange mob and will eventually lay waste. My Nobs are not rolling to hit or wound very well.

Last pic shows Orange mob and Nobz still in it but they are gonna die soon. At this point I give up and tell him he has tabled me even though I still have some models on the board. He play’s well and deserves a full victory. My consolidation prize is that I’ve downed more skimmers than I ever have before. If I had played my Mega Nobz more effectively I would have done even better. Another interesting, learning expierence against a skilled opponent.

Greetings,

I personally could have done with a bit better turn by turn info, as the flow of the battle was a little hard to follow. That said, I recognize how hard it is to take notes/remember a battle clearly after the fact, but the lack of being told what the DE were up to was noticable.

Really good overview pictures of the battlefield, though I would have liked one or two closer in shots of the DE so I could figure out what is up with the pink masks all the warriors are wearing (I really like the hornet/bee paint scheme to the DE). I also liked the old school ork figures and the very vibrant clean colors you appear to have on them (again, more close ups)

As a bit of advice tankbustas are not too shabby vs. DE, but Lootas will generally serve you as good or better, and have the added benefit of being quite useful against most armies as either light vehicle or heavy troop killers.

I'll also note, that you're a little light on regular boyz in this list and a little heavy on specialized boyz. By the way it sounds his only anti-horde tech is his Lord and the Ravagers with dissies (plasma). You could exploit that quite well by mobbing up more. Just a thought.

Nice batrep, thanks for posting.

Ha! There is a difference between those two pics, one is a few inches over to the right!

Just a thought, if you want to keep track of turns (this is to PipeAlley), why not just jot down some quick notes after every turn? It really does make batreps easier to read if they've got turn markers on 'em. I can't talk much since I'm too lazy to actually bother with 'em, but just a thought there.

I think the problem is my writting style, these ARE the notes to the battle, I certainly could add some more flavor.

Can do.

In my list this week I've replaced the TB's with Lootas, never used them before, let's see if "they" notice.

I took out the bikes and added more boyz and a Shokk Attack Gun Mek.
