I'd rop Pedro what is the point of spending 175 points n a power armoured CM that loses you combat tactics for the rather lame Stubborn?

You have nothing in your army that will greatly benefit either of his special rules (no sternguard nothing that is geared towards CC to gain +1 attacks). So why not just get a Captain?

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

Ok look at my revised list (edited original).

Chapter Master goes with combat squadded melta team, sergeant leads missile team so if they get assaulted he can use his two attacks to hopefully cause some hurt, and stop them failing leadership tests.

This is just IMHO and YMMV...

Ironclad>Venerable

Vulcan Dread Spam > Any other dread list possible

I just wanted to point out that I have never run a venerable dread as I find them cost prohibitive, however they could turn out to be the greatest unit ever but I'm set in my ways and am tired of painting and assembling walkers at this point.

Ah, gotcha. All dreads are awsome, Ill probably pick up a Ven on of these days.

I would suggest turning your two normal Dreads into shooty dreads though, give them AC/AC or AC/PC. I tend to favor the AC/PC load out myself, but as my friends would tell you I tend to get pretty lucky when it comes to artillary dice.

How on earth do you model that when the dreadnought don't come with T-L autocannon.

And I like the idea of 3 Dreads charging into close combat. Str 10 powerfists rule!

Problem with normal dreads in CC is that they only get 3 attacks on their assult and their 12 armor leaves them suceptable to grenades.

As for modeling them, there are really two options to make your own (I've seen some people use the melta arm cut up a bit with some IG heavy weapons team autocannons) or you can buy them from forge world. I went the forge world option personally although Im still waiting for them.

hmmm only 3 attacks on assault. With a sqaud of dreadnoughts (3) that's 9 attacks at Str 10.

And armour of 12 does make them susceptible to grenades attack, but how often is there a successful 6 rolled on a grenade attack.

Do dreadnoughts have ability to tank shock?

With 3 Ironclads going into that same combat you could have(assuming your running a Vulcan list):

6 Twin Linked Heavy Flamer shots or 3 TL Heavy Flamer shots and 3 TL Melta shots

12 Strength 10 Seismic Hammer shots (Seismic Hammer operates like an AP1 weapon)

Immuntiy from all weaponry Str 6 and under

And free extra armor.

And no dreadnought can not tank shot as they are walkers and not tanks. They can sweeping advance though.

An Ironclad will run you 135 points with a melta and strombolter or 150 points with two heavy flamers. I prefer running it with a melta and a heavy flamer at 145 points.

They are more expensive, but they are one of the most capable CC units IMO. Try proxying them sometime.

hmmmmm I may. Don't really want to get more dreads at mo though. May have to do a "counts as seismic hammer" on my list.

Dont get me wrong, normal dreads are great...as mobile weapons platforms.

I cann understand not wanting to get more dreads, I've painted 7 of them in the last 2 months. And had a dog eat two of them while the were sitting out on my table (they were the only two that were completly finished).

Now my firends joke with me that, The easiest way to kill a dreadnought is via poodle power.

And now Im looking into running my Vanilla SM chapter as a duel Vanilla and BA chapter depending on what I'm fealing like on any perticular day(my marines are already red). Unfortunatly this meens all kinds of new dreads to paint....I'm not sure I have that in me right now.

I am going to resist Blood Angels with all my might. I hate this "let's jump on the new codex" bandwagon.

Everybody seems to hate vanilla marines. When what it allows you to do is create a perfectly usable army.

Yes you have the Ultramarines characters as HQ choices (BORING), but it's a perfect beginners army.

As for dreads..... considering how well they did against my ork opponent last time, and the detail i'm going to have to go into painting my venerable, I thought a list with all three of them might work.

I can always take them as mobile tanks. Problem is even with re-rolled lascannon, it sometimes doesn't do much damage for its cost.

Only reason I'm thinking of picking up the BA codex is that it will let me essentially run two armies with one set of peices. My current color scheme is primed white models, Red Gore as the base coat washed with extremly watered down Shining Gold. Sort of makes them red and shiney. I think this lends the army to go either way as a regular SM sucessor chapter or a BA scussor chapter, plus letting Assult Marines be considered a troop choice would double the amount of scoreing troops I have in a game.

I really like Vanilla Marines, its sort of the Jack of All Trades when it comes to marines. Useing the codex you can make a force to do pretty much anything pretty well. But then again I like trying new things.

Dread lists are really strong in the group I play with. In a normal 1500 point game with my group of friends I was fielding 5 dreads, 3 Ironclads and 2 Normal Dreads with AC/PC. Its to the point now where I'm playing a different list because the list was unbeaten, and to me winning all the time just isnt fun.

Im not a big fan of lascannon's, in my experiance they tend to not preform. Melta weapons while shorter range are more powerful and dreads in CC will do more dmg.

To support my CC units I prefer autocannon and plasma cannon weapons. AC give you two shots and the plasma cannon gives you a template, I think its a very powerful combination, when backing up close combat dreads. Alternitvly you could run a TFC in your list. They are especially deadly against orks.

I'm a big fan of tactical squads and assault squad with chaplain.

Tactical squads with plasma cannons can take out a lot of stuff (even a battlewagon if they get it right).
And chaplain with 10 man assault squad just gets nasty for your opponent on the charge.

"right i'm going to be rolling 34 dice at you now. Oh and any that fail to hit i'm going to roll again. Oh and my chaplain and sergeant have power weapons so you don't get 2 armour saves......."
