Yes I've started another poll. I just want to see whether my Tau strategies are popular. Anyway I've been thinking about fail-safe detonators. My idea is give my Shas'el one and deep strike him in with his bodyguard, pump out firepower, I'd try not to get into assault but if I think something will assault me next turn and it's in range then hek I'll go for it. Hopefully they'll win the combat but if they end up fighting horde infantry then of course there going to lose. That's were the detonator comes in. The bodyguard run away and suddenly there's a smoking hole in the ground where the enemy squad and commander were.

I don't any idea where you're planning for failure. That's what the Failsafe Detonator does.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Well the failsave in my mind has only one place, and even thats fairly uneffective, i would add it to a single fusioun suit that deepstrikes with shield drones, that way, provided the drones help with surviving shooting, it can discourage assaults on him, altho AP- dosent really scare some things away.

It's not worth sacrificing your shas'el.

I rarely run it outside of apocolypse (points filler mainly) and in the apocolypse game it didn't kill anything but allowed a shas'vre and 3 Shas'O's to escape and annihalate their attackers (go hero super units ) and in this way it saved over 400 points. He was on one wound aswell.

Really I'd only use it if your meta includes lots of nids with T4 Multi wound models or nob units (Without PK's), in a farsight bomb unit and in apocolypse games where it will either ID lots (1+2) or save lots (3+4).

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

^ In a Farsight bomb does seem like a very good use of it.

Why you'd put it in Shas'el, why not one of the bodyguards? They can take it too.

As I see it, problem is that it is so unlikely that the detonator would do major damage. Number of things could go wrong, depending on what it is which assaults you (or vice versa). Assault terms or Meganobz will likely wipe out the entire team before failsafe detonator sees any use. Even if everything goes well: lets say you catch 12 Ork boyz under the blast template. On average, you'll get ten wounds, lets say 1 is saved. 9 dead Boyz, only 54 points for your opponent. Your Shas'vre or Shas'el costed lot more than that. Only use I see for it is for a large command team (ie. Farsight bomb), as an expensive form of insurance to protect the team from getting wiped out in Sweeping advance.

Thanks guys. I won't give it to a commander but 1500+ I'll give it to his guard. Well one of them anyway.
