Two Hydra, or not to Hydra, that is the question
I'm asking this becouse I'm rebuilding my Guard back up after many years of being lost in the warp.
I'm building my list to be a 2 company regiment. Red HQs and its vet squads are to be tooled up as tank hunters and rapid redeployment, Blue Company are to be used as the AC force to which i have one Hydra attached.
Would a squadron of 2 Hydra Flak Tanks be worth/not worth their points?
I'm tempted becouse of how cheep the Hydra is for what your getting.

Hydras are ridiculously inexpensive for the quality of firepower they bring to the table. The only problem with two in a squadron is that if they are a high priority for your opponent they will probably be destroyed relatively quickly.

My two LR BT1's are maybe abit more of a pressingly higher target than the Hydras
They are attached to Red Company (Melta Vets) as well as 2 Armoured Sentinals with ACs and a killer missile for just incase

Yeah, hydras are a bargain for that amount of firepower, but 2 is risky due to the fragility and there a high priority target. But against eldar or de 1 isnt enough to protect your artillery against all those skimmers, so i'd take 2, maybe 3.

I agree, Hydras are totally worth it. 2 or 3 would be my choice, coupled with 2 or 3 Manticores makes for a really solid mobile gun line

Go for two or don't bother. Paired Hydras really aren't that fragile, considering it's very easy to give them both cover saves without impeding their lanes of fire, and you can play wound allocation games.
For example, if you have two non-squadroned hydras, each of them has to find its own piece of cover, and they have to be careful not to block each other's line of sight. A squadron of them, on the other hand, can easily park one tank in some shrubs, park the other RIGHT IN FRONT of said shrubs, and both can fire unmolested while benefiting from 4+.

Don't they block LOS for each other then? Or is it like when fielding infantry squads and they don't block for eachother if they are in the same unit?
Camo netting might even be worth it in a static hydra flak cannon battery. It is very fluffy to have a unit of anti-air guns hidden in the woods with camo netting to support the rest of the army. It's even more fluffy if it's an army of forest or jungle fighters, because I would lovd to paint them in green/brown camo scheme and put some netting from a hobby store over them. That would look awesome!

vehicles in a squadron do not block LOS to each other, either way; BRB pg 64.

2 hydras all the way. 150 pts and all those damned landspeeders, bikers, piranhas, razorbacks, deffkoptas and rest of the fast-many-s8-shots critters are only a bad dream.
And they really aren't as fragile as they seem to be.

Hydras are awesome. Been using 2x1 hydra for a while myself, now moving over to 1x2 to free up a heavy slot. It has amazing firepower for it's value
