Mission One saw me facing a Deathwing heavy list. He had roughly;
Belial
1 Deathwing Squad with Thunder Hammers
4 Deathwing Squads with Fists, Bolters and an Assault Cannon each
Chaplain w/ Honor Guard in a dedicated Crusader.
6 man Ravenwing Squad which he Combat Squaded
Dakka Predator
Lazcannon Predator
Dreadnaught w/ Assault Cannon and Power Fist
I gave him the first turn so he his Deep Striking Termies could come in for my to shoot at them, and I could have last turn objective grabbing/contesting. Turned out to be a bit of a mistake, as I did not know Ravenwing were Scouts, and thus suffered first turn charges from his two three man units of them. They were assaulting Destroyers and Immortals, so they didn't do much damage, just tied stuff up, though what more do you want from them. The Crusader floors it forward to get into position to assault my Destroyer flank. Belial and his buddies used to Beacons on the Ravenwing and landed right in front of my lines. My army lights them up, and Belial loses all of his Thunder Hammer buddies to Heavy Destroyers and the other unit is relieved of several of it's number as well. On the other front I vainly attempted to Immobilize his Crusader to try and keep it's contents away from my line. No luck there as all I got were several Shakens. My ScytheLord positioned himself such as to block the road to the Destroyers and challenge his Chaplain.
Turn two Belial and the other unit of Termies make their presence felt with charges into my lines. His third and final Deep Striking Deathwing unit shows up with a grand entrance, it's Assault Cannon getting THREE Rending shots on a unit of Heavy Destroyers, downing all of them. He wipes one Immortal unit, and wins combat against the second and the Destroyers. Both fail their Leadership tests. Termies can't Sweep so the Immortals get away clean, and the Destroyers manage to win the Int roll against the Ravenwing to join them. His Crusader rolls up to my ScytheLord and drops it's contents who proceed to charge and kill my Lord, but not before the Lord deals two wounds to the Chaplain, leaving him with one remaining. Everyone rallies on my turn, and most of the Heavy make their WBBs, leaving me with one unit of 3 and one mobbed up unit of 5. Belial dies. The remaining unit of Termies from the intial Deep Strike die. The new unit of Termies loses it's Assault Cannon and two other guys leaving them with two Storm Bolters and out of Assault range for their turn. Destroyers back out of assault range of his Chaplain, and open fire, killing the Power Fist and two other guys, but leaving the Chaplain alive.
Turns three and four get much less eventful as we trade fire back and forth across the table. The chaplain gets back in the Crudader on 3, and rolls over and assaults a Warrior unit trying to sneak up the tallest center building to a third objective on it's roof. He rolls bad and the unit suffers few casualties, but fails to do any in return. I finally Immobilize the blasted Crusader.
Turn five my 5 man Heavy Destroyer unit gives itself to a unit of Deathwing in the middle of nowhere, so they have a shot to fire down range on his other remaining Deathwing unit that is holding is sole objective. In addition I have 3 other Heavies and 8 normal Destroyers unload on the same unit. A single Assault Cannon Terminator survives. My Lord veils the Warrior unit in combat with the Chaplain to safety, and the other Warrior unit and Immortals flay them into nothingness.
Turn six he expectantly kills the 5 man Heavy Destroyer unit, but can't finish off the other one. My turn the previously veiled Warriors sprint to an Objective, and I finish off the last Terminator on his side, leaving the score 2 objectives to 0, a Major Victory with 2 bonus points.

Game two was against Mr Goody Two Shoes himself, Marnius Calgar and his Ultramarines, painted in a real nice true blue colors. Rough list;
Calgar w/ Terminator Squad in a Land Raider Redeemer
2 Dreads with Lazcannons and Powerfists
6 ten man melta/missile Tac Squads, two of which have dedicated Rhinos
Five man Devastator Squad with two laz and two plasma cannons.
I got first turn, and the vast majority of my army fires into the Land Raider to try and keep it, but mostly it's contents, on the other side of the table. Once again I'm left wondering why I bother as I merely shake the thing repeatedly thanks to it's Extra Armor. ScytheLord turbo boosts over towards the flank where his Devastators reside. On his turn he makes what I see as his key critical mistake and keeps the Land Raider stationary so Marnius can make use of his Orbital Bombardment on my packed lines. A bad scatter and it downs a single Destroyer inside Orb range. The rest of his shooting downs assorted guys, but I don't remember which because...
On my second turn every single model that went down makes it's We'll Be Back save. My shooting this turn works out MUCH better, as I not only Immobilize the Land Raider, but blow off it's Multi-Melta and Assault Cannons. I destroy a Rhino attempting to sneak up one flank, and kill 1 laz, 1 plas out of his Devastators. The ScytheLord does a short turbo boost and settles into range to assault the remaining Devastators the next turn. On his turn he downs a few assorted Destroyers, all but one of which WBB. He downs an entire Heavy Destroyer unit, but they get back up to once again make a 5 man mob unit with their neighbors. Marnius gets out of his armored home and begins the difficult trek across the trench work towards my lines.
At this point the game's pretty much mine, with him having little hope of foot slogging across the table to assault me, and my heavy fire vastly out numbering his own. Heavy Destroyers make short work of his Terminators and Marnius in two turns of fire. Destroyers kill one Dreadnaught and the other Rhino. Immortals and additional Destroyer fire kill the guys inside. My ScytheLord assaults the Devastators and only hits once but the blow is solid and the Serge goes down. The other Dreadnought counter charges the Lord, but as it tries to get across the trenchwork my Lord turns and again with only a single hit, kills it. He moves in a TacSquad to try and save the Devastators, but with T6 and 3+ armor he remains mostly untouched. One hit a turn slowly kills the Devastators before a second TacSquad joins the fray and the Lord finally goes down to a dog pile of 34 attacks. He decides he's made his points and stays down.
Final score, I lost 1 1/2 units of Heavy Destroyers and the ScytheLord awarding 503 VPs. I score 1680 from his army, leaving me ahead by 1177, 50 pts into the Massacre Threshhold, and we each earn two bonus points.

The final round has me tied for first with one of the two armies I went into the event knowing really didn't want to have to fight, the other didn't show up. A Leaf Blower Guard list. Roughly;
No frills command squad.
2 Psyker Battle Squads in chimeras
3 vet squads with three meltas each in chimeras
platoon blob with 3 auto cannons
3 solo Vendettas with triple twin-laz
2 tank Demolisher unit
Leman Russ with the plasma turret and sponsons
3 tank Medusa unit.
He rolls the first turn, I fail to seize, and I know I'm screwed. Thanks to the reactionary deployment and the Fortress of Redemption dominating the center of the table, I'm able to deploy along one half of my zone and cut off half of his army from being able to see/shoot me. Unable to draw a bead are the Medusas, the three vet chimeras, and the platoon blob which never moves, and while occasionally getting shots at the heads of taller destroyers never downs anyone and shall thus forth never be mentioned again. His first turn's shooting is very precise, reducing my starting count of 9 Heavy Destroyers to a single mob unit of 4. He kills 2 Immortals out of each unit which causes Morale Checks, uses the Psyker Battle Squad to reduce each units leadership to 2, and they both proceed to run off the table before I even get to take a turn. My turn, go big or go home, I veil the Lord and a Warrior unit up in range of his tank line. With my army's combined fire I kill one Demolisher and Stun the other, blow the center gun off of one Vendetta and Immobilize it leaving it behind the hill and other tanks so it never gets to fire again, blow the turret and one sponson off the plasma tank, and shake a second Vendetta. ScytheLord turbos up and tucks himself into a corner of the Fortress. Despite all the carnage I cause, not a single KP is earned, so I am currently down by 8 at the end of turn one.
Turn two sees him start to target my Warriors as they are the largest units of Necrons and he wants to Phase me. While I take minimal casualties across my army, the Psykers break both my Warriors units, but they saw what happened to the Immortals and are further up the table so they do not make it off and promptly rally. On my turn I cause another slow of Immobilized, Stun and Weapon Destroyed results, but fail to kill anything. ScytheLord moves in on the Psyker's Chimeras and while crippling one, fails to do anything that stops their shenanigans. I make a key error in my movement, when my OrbLord veils too far forward and into the line of fire of the Medusas I had momentarily forgotten about. I still earn no KPs.
He rewards my error by moving one Psyker Chimera away to clear the line of fire, and rolling Three Freaking Hits on the convenient ball of Warriors. The Vets finally roll around the other side of the Fortress, and six Meltas finish off the rest of my Heavies and cut my other Warrior unit in half but the Pskyers are not in line of sight to break them. ScytheLord explodes the Immobilized Chimera, earning me my first KPs. On my turn Destroyers avenge the Warriors and OrbLord by destroying two Medusas and blowing the gun off the third. Second unit manages to Stun one Vendetta. Third one comes to the assistance of the remaining Warriors and together they gut the Vets, but not enough of them, and they don't break, leaving 5 meltas in prime position. ScytheLord kills the remaining Demolisher.
Fourth turn, despite his dice's best efforts to take pity on me, he finishes off the Warriors, leaving me with 14 Destroyers and SvytheLord, 15 Necrons, my dreaded Phase Out count and we end it. Even ignoring the Phased Out units, it was 16 KPs to 6. My biggest frustration were the Pskyers and their ability to break my units at will, with virtually no way to prevent it short of blowing up their Chimera then wiping out the unit inside. I end up 4 pts behind 3rd place, for 5th place in total. Still had plenty of fun, even against the Guard guy, so I'm fine with it.

Thanks for sharing. Great looking tables for the tourney and mostly painted armies to boot. Tough match up for the 3rd game as the psycher squads just do horrendous things to armies such as the Necrons. But, kudos for doing so well with the Necrons up until the 3rd game.

I would of kept the warriors over the immortals. That's the best competitive necron list without a monolith that I've seen.

Tough call. Warriors would have been better Round One just for the extra bodies and all the shooting being point blank. Round Two the Immortals were making much better use of their longer range fire and performed much better than the Warriors. I put the Immortals in for the purposing of having more long range firepower for when I faced the guy I played in Round Three, yet that game they were just neutered by their own smaller unit size and came out completely useless.
I still think they were a better bet than the Warriors, and if I had gotten first turn (or better yet seized initiative) the last round then I would just destroyed the Guard player.

Dude... know its too late but... unless the codex he used says different.. you got cheated in game 1.
Units of 10 can be split into 2 5-man combat squads. The rule in C: SM is kind of specific about that.

As a Deathwing player, it hurt to see the army so pawn'd in your first battle, but great gameplay always win and your gameplan made sense. I have a small Necron army myself, so I didnt mind too much.
It was fun to see Necrons do so well and without a monolith... wow.

I found I need the Heavy Destroyers to be able to deal with guys and units with 2+ saves. I tried running a single Monolith last year, but I found that at the 2500 point level, a single Monolith just simply dies if your opponent is able to kill it. The only game it survived was against full Nurgle Daemons.

I'm sorry about that last game, Aduro. It is always a pleasure to see the necrons properly get phased, though.
It was contrary to what most people said because the tables still LOOKED cool. Most of them (besides the two snow tables which i, the guard player, was able to play on) had at least 75% of the table covered in terrain. The book recommends that only 25% of the table be terrain. If we hold semi-finals, they have to be a lot more strict about it.

Thanks for the reports.
I think I would also be none to happy if that much terrain was on the table at a tournament. It seems to totally schew the already shaky balance of army playstyles .. and stuff.

None of the tables had more than 50% coverage, unless you count roads. The majority of them were probably between the 30 and 40% marks.

Book says to shoot for 25% though, doesn't it?
In my first game at ' AB there was a ruin that was about 2' cubed in the center of the board.
More or less terrain definitely changes the dynamic of the game.

2" cube would be bad, but I don't think any of the tables gets anywhere near that. Fortress of Redemption would have been the worst one for table divisions, which really helped me out the game I played on it. Otherwise I do prefer more terrain than less, even with my shooty Necrons. I personally think these were right about perfect.

The idea is to have a stationary camera to try and keep a single perspective on the battle, letting you see the units moving from turn to turn. Worked Really good on the second game, so so on the first game, and no terribly well on the third game because of the Fortress and table location keeping me from putting the camera in a good spot to see the whole table.
