Could anyone explain this rule please?

heres my understanding. if an infantry unit takes a wound in the shooting phase it must make a morale test. Pass and you make a consolidation move (the thing after winning a melee) towards the nearest enemy unit. Fail and you fall back as normal.

You love it you slags!

Yeah, that's what I thought, but what I was thinking was, do you get to assault after that? After all, Black Templars don't have fleet of foot, and the consolidation move is essentially a run move.

The rules don't say to treat it as such, so it's not.

You get shot in your opponents turn - and you can't assault in another players turn.

Okay here's a rundown of the rule (if there are any remaining questions):

A BT infantry unit (not Jump Infantry) takes a Morale Test if it lost any casualties due to enemy shooting. This replaces the 25% rule.

If an Infantry unit passes a Morale check (except when Tank Shocked), it moves D6 inches towards the nearest visible enemy unit. (If due to enemy shooting, this is in the enemy turn). This is identical to a Consolidate move, and therefore can be argued that you do not have to move the full distance, as consolidation is "up to" D6".

For more details, read about Consolidation in the main rulebook.

On a side note, I never realized that special abilities that force morale checks can trigger righteous zeal. At least, that would be my interpretation.

I think we've figured the rule out to be this:

If a BT unit loses a model to enemy shooting they must take a morale check, if they pass they move D6" towards the nearest enemy unit and fall back if they fail.

Then after that it says, then every other unit in the army except_______ (forgot the units) have to take a morale check or fall back, if they pass they move D6" also.

I think thats what we thought it out to be, if you lose 1 guy to shooting then your whole army has to take a morale check.
We don't really play with BT, only on occassion, but when we do and we had questions on the rule we always figured it out to be this.

2,500pts Hive Fleet Goliath - Tyranids --- W-10 . . D-4 . . L-5
2,000pts Empire of Quatar - Tomb Kings W-3 . . D-1 . . L-6
1,000pts Angry Marines - Blood Angels --- W-1 . . D-0 . . L-0
They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear.

That's not right.

Righteous Zeal only applies to Infantry units. The part you're reading as the rest of the army having to test is simply pointing out that the rest of the army (ie: non-Infantry units) take Morale tests as normal, rather than following the Righteous Zeal rule.

Only the unit that takes the casualty has to test for Righteous Zeal... and only if it's an Infantry unit.

Thank you, like I said, we barely play with my friend's BTs, but that does help our understanding of the rule if we do play with them.
