I'm looking for someone who either does magnitizing or can recommend someone reliable to do it. I have a few figured I want done for my Nid army.

BTP, MWG... to name just the best. If you don't want them to do it, MWG has videos up that tell you how to magnatize a carnifex, and BTP has some videos showing their magnatization. MWG even sells the magnets - at a lower price I believe!

If you need to buy magnets, I like Amazing Magnets. For TMCs, mostly you want 1/8" discs; typically, I use 1/16" thick discs, except for heavier joints; you may want thicker for those. Not exactly expensive - $12 for 100, plus shipping. To help you feel better about shipping, make sure you select the "Include free samples" and "Include free pen" when you check out.

I've done it for my Heavy Gear Blitz tank turrets as well as the drones. The turrets balance better, especially since I modded a couple into a variant design that has a rocket pod off to one side.

The Drones are tiny, so I put a magnet in each base and made a couple 'holders' out of spare bases. Each can hold three, and I've considered making another out of a big GW 'Monster' base (60mm?) to hold a bunch of them.

I'm not quite confident of doing fiddly stuff like hand-held weapons, but it's definitely a neat idea and very useful.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

Me and two of my freinds pretty much magnitize everything. great for WYSIWYG and general reuse of all the units you by if you do it right. My buddy has done his entire Nid army with magnets and I've done my entire Marine force (including tanks, dreads, infantry and the scouts on my storms). Its a good idea and not very difficult. Saves you a ton of money on models in the end.

Note: D+ can take over 12 hours of driving in Canada. It's no small task here.

Do it your self and save some cash for more nids, K&J magnetics....

I've done it on all my Big projects , and most of the IG tanks I've built recently.

In fact I'm staring on the Hellfire missiles for my Thunderhawk tonight...

It's not bad to do yourself, nor is it expensive.

Couple of tips:

1) Predrill a small hole centered where you want the magnet. The hardest part by far of magnetizing is getting things to line up right - the small hole will make it more likely for your big hole to end up where you want it and not off-kilter.

2) Keep track of your polarizations - you want everything to be interchangable and it's stupidly easy to flip north and south poles.

3) Magnet to steel is easiest, magnet to magnet is nicer.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

I've been putting magnets on the bases of my whole WFB armies so that When I determine perfect unit sizes, I will make movement trays out of steel.

Permanent marker is your friend. Mark your poles as you go - magnets seem to enjoy rotating in their holes on me.

Good call on the permanent marker! I just picked up a bunch of magnets to kit out my flyrant that is in the works. I will be sure to mark as I go.

I just mentioned this in another thread, but I always use something like a nail head for one half of the joint, then you don't have to worry about polarity.

If you want one pre magnetized, i'm selling mine . . . have yet to put it on the swap shop. if not it is really easy to do if you have a bit of patience. its a 2 hour conversion if you know what you're doing . . . maybe 4 if you don't.

one lesson tho. . . I managed to make the back swappable by sinking a magnet to twice its deapth in the different back bitz. i don't know if you can tell, the first time i tried i was sinking the magnet into the body and i punched a hole through it.

Otherwise, make sure you have all the poles right and watch out when installing a magnet right next to another one . . . they can 1)be difficult to install without some zip 2) repolarize
