Upcoming apoc tourny.

1 of the last things i need to work out.
Should i take Termies (Non-assualt kind) or a dread to assist my sternguard?
Either chiioce will be in a drop pod. The unit will arive on the same turn as the sternguard or the turn after.

Biggest rival is a dread spam list (double digit dreads )
Note: thats not hardest oppenent just the guy i need to beat.

Need answers please as i tend not take drop pods much.

Oh and unit upgrade ideas is also welcome

Terminators cannot take drop pods.

And regular Terminators suck eggs. I would take a dreadnought in a pod to support your sternguard, and then an assault terminator squad in a land raider or deep striking. Thunder hammers will be a good answer to all those dreadnoughts you may face.

Okay then the sternguard's will have a locator beacon.
And the terminators will most likely arrive the turn after then. Otherwise i'll have to hope the scatter is small.

The only terminators that can ride in drop pods are Wolf Guard.

Ok then. So locator beacon on the sternguard drop pod it is. <that is if i take the terminators.

I'll add this is a codex SM army (mostly)

I would like to add that i have only the dread arms supplied in the box. But could propaply convert the others.

But, seeing as how you don't have that... DCCW + heavy flamer, and then the assault cannon (if you make it a vendread) or Twin-linked las if it's not a vendread. Pod is a definite win.

Not making Ven.Dread too many points for an ability i have never had help me.
And an Ironclad won't really help me tank bust effectively with my play style.
Dread is the way im swinging atm BUT there isn't many tanks in my army so whatever AT my oppenent brings will be quickly leveled at the dread and few tanks

take a Dread with a Multimelta and a heavy flamer. That should cure whatever your enemy decides to throw at you.

Anyways, dude, the vendread ability isn't half of it! The BS5 is the biggest thing! WS 5 is pretty nice, but is nowhere near as useful as the BS. The venerable rule is pretty good, but only worth using if you get a wrecked or explodes result.

+1 bs doesn't do it for me. + the ven ability coupled with my luck = double 6 etc.

I am fighting dread spam as an opponent i must beat (player is a TFG)

A dread increases my vehicle count to 4/5
Not many vehicles.
This will be a priority for an enemy's anti-tank is what im getting at.
So it will be easy for my opponent to concentrate his anti-tank

Plan is to Deepstrike behind the tfg's dread wall maybe if i fight him.
Otherwise deepstrike behind semi-vunerable part of enemy force and cripple it. Will combat squad sternguard when they come out of drop pod so i can fire at 2 targets.
Reason I'm not going for most vunerable part is because of some of my army is geared towards this.
And hopefully I'm going to fight a cc oriented army.

Lysander is a beautiful match for sternguard in a pod if there are tanks about. He's quite good at killing them, and not being killed at the same time. He also stays in their squad (doesn't add a KP with another pod) and twin links their bolters, which is really dirty.

I commonly use him but I'm not this game. I have a personnal SC that I'm using which has been allowed by the TO.

Answer to top of this quote: I'm am hoping to take out some of a flank with this unit or at least weaken it so my fast moving forces can go through this hole to objectives/rear armour.
In absense of easy target to colapse a flank I will head for heaviest concentration to force at least 1 or 2 to attack these units. This will, along with certain other scary units will alloe=w me to take on the dreads piecmeal.
But this also rellies on me rolling this player as my 1st opponent. (fingers crossed)

Well my current list has about 1000pts spare which will go towards my Inq units. But i work better once i have a steady number i can use for the Inq.
This decsicion between Dread and termies needs to be made first, along with other decsicions i haven't posted on dakka.
Might as well just pm you the list as i have no intention of having a ton of people abuse my playstyle and say X unit is rubbish blah blah blah.

Anyways(2), Termies will just be screwed over by Dreads in CC.

TH/SH termies will have a very good chance of pulverising them.

I mean, if the dread charges you, you'll probably loose 2 dudes, 1 atleast in all likelyhood. I mean, that 5++ won't keep you alive long. And that power weapon is just redundant in that combat. Sure, any remaining PF's will probably smack-rape the 'nought, but you'll have lost 1-3 of your dudes for it. Yeah, 80pts for 105pts plus is worth it, but how long is that 5 man squad really gonna last? Especially when you take into account the dreads shooting you. :/ [/tacticalSMcreed]

Other lists in this tourny are Uber deamons.
(one with the 999pt tzeentch lord and some Csm. Other jusst 8 Bloodthirsters with Angron, Angrath and ever other khornate SC)
