m trying to think of a good background story for my SM chapter "Paladins of Ultimar" the problem im having is trying to find a good story to add my greyknights to my chapter besides "they want the grey knights help".

so i painted my grey knights blue and silver and so far for the story there some of the original founding Ultramarines and my grand master even fought along side of Roboute Guilliman. This is to explain there more detailed armour, special rules and wargear. After the second founding the Paladins of Ultimar were born. My grand master was the first chapter master but for some un explained reason they were lost in the warp for almost 10,000 years. When returned to normal space they found there chapter doing reasonably well. They were welcomed back after a extencive intaragation to make sure they wernt a Chaos trick of some sort. The current Chapter master does not fully trust them yet and wants to keep an eye on them ( why i dont know im still working on it ) this is why they can only be taken as seconadry HQ,Troops and so on.

Id love to hear any input good or bad I really want to make them apart of the chapter. Im also thinking about keeping my SM some what Ultramarine in aperince but use the Black templar rules. I might pick up the codex in a few days.

I don't think you wanted this to be in YMDC. Also, I'm pretty sure that SM are unequal to GK, in just about every way imaginable. Finally, I'm confused; your chapter master is a grandmaster? Grey Knights don't come from Ultramarine geneseeds; they're rumored to be created from the genetic material of the Emperor himself. How could they be Ultramarines? Now if you wanted to call them "Elite Ultramarines" or some such thing as counts-as GK, well, that's a different story. But now your Ultramarines are going to be Black Templar? Why do they have vows? How does the Emperor's Champion tie in with that?

He's using grey knight allies but wants them to be a special unit in his chapter. Nothing wrong with that at all.

However, the "lost in the warp" line is more than slightly cliched and overdone.

Moving to 40K Background

The black templar thing is to have my SM painted like ultramarines and have there symbols but to use the rules for the Black templars (I like ultramarine blue what can i say) and have a knightly quality to them.

Like I said im going to be picking up the Black templars codex soon. I really know nothing about them. that is why i dont know how the emporers champion will tie in.

I know the "lost in the warp thing " gets old fast but I really coundn't think of anything else so far. it was that or they left the galaxy chasing after some Chaos threat and only so few managed to return.
