Friendly game, still learning Nids, my gaming buddy used less mech than he usually does so I can get a better feel for Nids.

Rolled Pitched Battle and Seize Ground, 5 objectives. Terrain was evenly distributed, a forest in the center of table, area terrain on far left (from my deployment zone) and just to the right of the forest, scattered hills and rocks. Objectives were symmetrical, 2 on each players side near corners and one at table center.

Nids went first.

Deployed my warriors, one group of hormagaunts, and hive guard on my left side objective, as far forward as the can get. Swarmlord, Carnifex, 2nd hormagaunt and termagaunts on right side objective. Gargoyles between the two groups, in synapse of both. Raveners and Trygon in reserve.

CSM deploys.

All rhinos are deployed on his left side objective (my right side), one inside an open ruin, all with marines loaded. Dread goes in cover on his far right objective, all alone (my left). Deidrian is joined with plaguemarines in their rhino. Oblits and Raptors are reserved.

CSM fails to steal init.

Turn 1 :

Nids - Warriors advance slowly with gaunts for screen, spreading out to keep objective controlled while moving synapse closer to center. Hive guard moves forward 6 and stops in the forest in middle of the field. Lord, Fex, gargoyles and hormagaunts advance on the right, terma's stay just close enough for synapse. Hive guard pots the Dread with first shot, it goes 'splodey. Remaining Rhinos are out of shooty range.

CSM - PM's in rhino advance 12", pops smoke, marines in rhino with dozer advance 6". Bolter fire kills 2 hormagaunts. Remaining rhino waits in the ruin.

Turn 2 :

Nids - Trygon and raveners come out of reserves. Raveners pop up near middle of field, near center objective. Trygon scatters in front of my Lord and Fex, between the two rhinos. Warriors and gaunts hold position on my left side. Hive guard sits in the forest. Lord, fex, both gaunts advance more, Lord hanging back behind gaunts and fex. Gargoyles advance and screen raveners. Fex now in assault range of far right rhino. Lots of shooting, hive guard gets a weapon destroyed on the PM's rhino, Trygon wrecks it. Fex assaults and immobilizes right side rhino. PM's are screened by the wreck of their rhino from assault.

CSM - Raptors arrive behind my right side force, scatter out of position enough to put them on my objective. Rhino disembarks. All CSM units fire at my Lord, killing him. 3 rolls of 1 on wound saves, ouch, plus melta. PM's fire on my gargoyles, they Fearless to four wounds taken. PM's then assault and slay remainder. Dead gargoyles leave an opening for my raveners to advance next turn.

Turn 3 :

Nids - Fex moves to clear LOS to disembarked CSM. Gaunts still holding my left side objective. Warriors providing synapse and reserve force on left flank. Termagaunts advance to the rear and get in assault range of the raptors. Raveners move to assault range of PM's. Hive guard shoots at rhino in ruin, misses. Trygon shoots the raptors, reduces them by 2. Raveners assault PM's, gaunts shoot at Raptors. Fex shoots and assaults CSM along with hormagaunts. Raveners reduced to 1 with a wound, gaunts reduced to 9. PM's lose 2, raptors reduced to 1. CSM loses 3, hormagaunts finish remainder, lose 3.

CSM - Still no Oblits. Rhino fails to repair. CSM disembark from rhino in ruin, take up positions in cover and holding objective. Assaults continue. Raveners eliminated, but take another PM with them.

Turn 4 :

Nids - Warriors, gaunts and hive guard hold positions on left flank. Trygon moves forward to within range of the PM's. Fex moves to get LOS on the PM's. Hormagaunts and termagaunts swap, hormies moving back toward my objective and remaining raptor and termies moving forward. Trygon shoot PM's, does nothing. Fex shoots them too, does nothing. Hormagaunts assault and slay remaining raptor.

CSM - Finally oblits arrive! First unit DS into my rear left flank, but scatter away from my left objective. Second unit arrives between Trygon and opponents sole objective, no scatter due to Icon. PM's move into area terrain next to wrecked rhino, kind of headed for center objective. Shooting at trygon and carnifex results in 2 wounds on trygon, no wounds for the Fex. Oblits shoot at Fex, cause 2 wounds. Second oblit unit shoots plasma cannons at hormagaunts sitting on my left side objective, kill 3.

Turn 5 :

Nids - Fex advances to face off with Oblits. Trygon heads to the PM's in cover. Termagaunts snap out of synapse and sit behind the immobilized rhino. Hormagaunts capture my right rear objective. Warriors and left flank gaunts prefer to not fight oblits, move forward toward opposite objective, stretching toward the center objective at the same time. Hive guard sits tight. Fex shoots oblits, does nothing. Trygon shoots PM's, kills 2 more, 4 remaining with Deidrian. Hive guard shoots at rhino in ruins, it goes splodey. Fex assaults oblits, kills one. Trygon assaults PM's, kills 2, takes a wound.

CSM - Rhino scores a repair! Left flank oblits attempt to chase my gaunts down. More plasma fire kills 2 more, but synapse prevents them from breaking. CSM in ruins shoot at termagaunts hiding behind rhino, kills 2, they pass LD. PM's continue assault on Trygon, score one more wound but die to the counterattack, trygon consolidates back toward my right rear objective. Fex slain by oblit.

Turn 6 :

Nids -
Warriors spread into center of board and capture center objective. Hormagaunts daisy-chain to capture rear left objective. Trygon moves to shooting range of remaining CSM and keeping gaunts on my right rear objective in synapse. Hive Guard stays put. Trygon kills last oblit, everyone else shoots at remaining CSM, only kill 2.

At this point my opponent conceded, as I controlled 3 objectives and he could not push me off or contest.


I didn't realize until the end of the game that I hadn't used the Fex's bioplasma at all. Opponent kicked himself when he realized he'd moved cruising speed on one of his rhinos turn 1, and we were both suprised by the dreadnaughts destruction. Didn't get to use the Swarmlord at all, sadly. But the Fex was a big highlight, after all the noise of them being nerfed by the new codex he did a great job.

Fun read. Nice to see a Fex on the table.
I think Swarmy needs at least one guard so he can get cover saves.
