Has anyone used the x-board yet?

I'm thinking about getting 1 for myself, but I'd like to hear people's opinions before I drop the cash on it. Any info you can provide would be appreciated, especially pictures with minis on it.

Never heard of it.

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

I REAAAAALLLLY considered buying it but then started scratch building my own and for really cheap. It cost me around $20 to build and turned out nice i will throw up some pics of it once its done. Just need one more trim piece and primed and painted.
The board is nice and a little easier to work with if you dont have the tools to make your own.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

I assume it's a nice product, but I honestly fail to see how it fits in with their overall product line.

Much cheaper to build on your own. Plus you won't be getting bonus points for using a mass produced board in competitions.

I see your point about mass production. Which would be better though? Mass produced board or nothing because my DIY was too big to travel.

Why would you not get bonus points for using a mass produced display board? The GT scoring system merely says "Display board".. Not "Display board that we approve of".. You still have to paint the board. Do you make all your own models? I imagine most GW models you use are mass produced :p You simply paint and pose them

Basic points yes, bonus points no.

You can always add more detail to the basic display board to garner those extra points. I don't think using a mass produced display board automatically keeps you from earning extra points.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

You will be destroying half the point of using the xboard if you add stuff to it. Plus again you can make an identical or comprable board for a third of the cost of the xboard. The only advantage is the xboard breaks down for transport.

I believe this is exactly the point of the X-board.
This is exactly why I'm interested in it.

Does anyone actually own one?

I own one. It arrived a couple weeks ago (preordered at the SoCal Slaughter), and I've been meaning to post up a review.

Short version: it's a very nice board, and does what it is advertised to do. Construction is solid - there is zero flex or twist in the board once assembled, which is crucial. It's adequately sized for most uses - I was using mine at the Ard Boyz to transport my Tyranids (2500 pts + 50 extra termagants, all the little bugs on trays). I haven't tried to put a mech IG parking lot on it yet.

Strangely enough, it comes in a compartmentalized bag, with individual slots/pockets for all 7 pieces, which I don't recall seeing mentioned. It's a nice touch. The only thing missing is some sort of carry-strap on the bag.

Personalization should be easy enough - the flats, viewed from the bottom, are a collection of ~1" squares, leaving plenty of space to insert large magnets or drill pin holes, so you can attach elements to the upper surface that way, while still breaking down for easy transport.

If you're out there, Romeo, I'm very pleased. Next, please sell alternate flats - I'd like a completely smooth one, to allow for optimum personalization.

For the "you can make a cheaper one" crowd, you're absolutely right. But a) this is faster; and b) this is far sturdier in a reusable board that breaks down for transport.

Probably not today. I'll do a photo session on Thursday, when I next have the army out.

I think its cheaper to just buy a GW expansion for the realm of battle table. Maybe I am wrong but $ 70 bucks could be better spent on something else. Like a land raider crusader aren't they now $65.00 American???? ...

It just seems to me a little work and you actually have something that will cost you a third of the price if that.

My point is the money could be used for more mini's... But to each his (or her) own. I would take that $70.00 and turn it into a Manticore or two. Well maybe a manticore and a half.

I couldn't fit my IG on that board anyway. So if it works for you that great, I'll take the Manticore/s ish..

I can appreciate you passing on the item, but atleast quote the correct price. $65, not $70. Not a huge difference, I admit, but a difference it is.

I'm interested in this product because of it's primary selling point and it's niche. It is a display board that breaks down for travel. In other words, when I travel to a tourney, I can break it down for ease of transport and set it back up at the event to display my army/ carry it from board to board. I then break it down when I go home and it can sit packaged until the next tourney.

I intend to purchase one. The people who actually have one have said good things about it. The company that makes it has a good reputation for other quality products... a class leader actually, who's taken foam to a new level. All I need is an actual photo of the product with an army on it to pry the cash out of my wallet.
