Some films are known for their acting, script or plot, others for their scale or their feeling of awe translated captured on celluloid, or pixels. CGI makes this too easy, I feel there is still something is missing in the technology that only the 50's can provide, the true age of epic cinema. You may or may not agree, after all Avatar definately qualifies as epic and Lawrence of Arabia didnt make the 50's either. Anyway here is your opportunity to post some epic moments, clips preferably or discribed moments if you have to.
I will start off to give an idea of what epic means, lest anything think 'epic' means a clip of a cacophony of heavy guitar riffs over some mindlessly kewl shoot em up game. My opening clip is from the ending of Land of the Pharoahs (1955), so if the film is new to you try and watch the lot, or face being horribly spoilered.
Now show us your favourite epic moments be they heroic faceoffs, exploding volcanos, crumbing cities, lightsbre duels, dino fights or whatever, you are not limited to one, but try one at a time, lest you steal everyone elses thunder. Now epic away!

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
Every second of Spartacus. The opening scene of Cleopatra and the entrance of Cleopatra into Rome.
-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG
-"Don't mind Frazzled. He's just Dakka's crazy old dude locked in the attic. He's harmless. Mostly."
-TBone the Magnificent 1999-2014, Long Live the King!
Anyway my second offering is a real treat, a stop motion dino fight from the 1968 classic One Million Years BC, back before we saw CGI raptors chaising Sam Neill and co if you wanted a good monster mash you needed to drink in these all too short (because they were expensive) animations from films like this. Years later you might also notice what all the fuss was about over Raquel Welsh, but even now, for me its all about the monsters, the cheesy plot and the one word scripting. Epic!

I'll always be a fan of the Rohirrim charge from Return of the King:
I haven't watched many of the really old movies, unfortunately. I did see Citizen Kane a couple of years ago in school, and it was fantastic, but it's the only one I can remember.
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
