So after 'Ard Boyz finished I realized that I had more fun with my Thunderwolves and needed to give my hero's some more loving...here is a list capitalizing on the ridiculous:

H.Q.

Canis -185

Hannibal the Cannibal
Wolf Lord, Thunderwolf Mount, Runic Armor, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Belt of Russ, Frost Blade, Saga of the Warrior Born -260

MC Hammer
Wolf Lord, Thunderwolf Mount, Runic Armor, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Storm Shield, Thunder Hammer, Saga of the Beastslayer -245

Troops

Fenrisian Wolves 15x -120

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Mark of the Wulfen, Razorback: Twin Linked Lascannons -165

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Mark of the Wulfen, Razorback: Twin Linked Lascannons -165

Heavy Support

Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers -115

Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers -115

Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers -115

Total: 1485

Yeah, 2 Troops in Razorbacks doesn't seem idyllic; however, these guys are only around to snipe tanks and big baddies and not really get stuck in. They're there for the late game taking of objectives. The 3 H.Q.'s join the Fenrisian Wolf Pack so that they have 15 ablative wounds so they can cross the field and put the hurting on my opponent. With 12 missiles streaming across the table a turn, my opponent will be hard pressed to get any momentum going as I would pop most transports easily, if a Land Raider shows up, no biggie, I assault it with MC Hammer, surround it with the Wolves and call it a day...~500 points going bye bye.

Thoughts, comments, criticisms? I'm all ears.

Well it is an interesting idea. I think, however, it an unfocused list and weak because of it. 15 ablative t4 wounds with 6+ saves is not going to be the help you think it will. Mathhammerwise it will only take 35 hits (assuming ap-) on this unit to remove them all, and flamers will make short work of them. Because there is nothing else coming into short range (working for the charge), they will be the target for all mid to short range fire. Once these are gone, the HQ's are all alone.

The other troop choice, staying on the peripherals and sniping, are the only target for long range anti tank. AV11 doesnt stand up long to S8+ weapons.

I do, however, like the long fangs packs. Good strong shooting from turn one.

I would lose one of the HQ's, drop the razorbacks down to heavy bolters, and pick up two more razor back squads. I would move all 4 of my transports and my large unit of wolves with HQs forward. Overwhelm my enemy, and use my long fangs to blast enemies from far away. A pure horde army of any sort is going to give this list a hard time.

True, Flamers would walk through this list...that's a given; however, that's assuming I'm within the ~7-8" to get burned. Sure Mechanized armies could surround me and burn me to death but they also have to deal with the fact that 12 Missiles will make short work of that armor moving in close. Additionally, I'm not really relying so much on the 6+ save as much as the almost guaranteed 4+ cover save. The nastiest thing about the horde unit is it is so large that it can garner all sorts of cover saves as well as tie up large numbers of bodies in assault (~50 Guardsmen in a single round of combat on Monday).

4 Heavy Bolter Razorbacks are well...easy prey in my eyes. Sure, I could have my points better spent on multiple units than 2 super hero H.Q.'s; however, it just goes against the theme too much. I just want my opponent to have to deal with the decision of avoiding 12 Missiles or a moving wall of Initiative 5 Death.

The Lascannon Razorbacks really aren't even meant to be on the board for the beginning of the game. They are mainly there for the late game after the monsters and the missiles are in clean up mode.

Still though, I figured I should attempt to figure in another scorer in there so I reworked as follows:

H.Q.

Canis -185

Hannibal the Cannibal
Wolf Lord, Thunderwolf Mount, Runic Armor, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Belt of Russ, Frost Blade, Saga of the Warrior Born -260

MC Hammer
Wolf Lord, Thunderwolf Mount, Runic Armor, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Storm Shield, Thunder Hammer, Saga of the Beastslayer -245

Troops

Fenrisian Wolves 15x -120

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Mark of the Wulfen, Razorback: Twin Linked Lascannons -165

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Mark of the Wulfen, Razorback: Twin Linked Lascannons -165

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Mark of the Wulfen, Razorback: Twin Linked Heavy Bolter -130

Heavy Support

Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers -115

Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers -115

Total: 1500

Right at 1500, 3 Scoring units, a boatload of missiles, monster units...a little lighter on the need to kill everything in the first turn.

If you want a game this Saturday, we can get one in before I head to work. We can start around 11 over at Arsenal Games if you're up for it.

I can imagine that big Fenirison Wolf Pack getting shot up alot and getting killed in the first few turns, it's the core of your army and they also limit the charge range on your Thunder Wolf mounted HQ's.

I think GoatBoy won a tournament by running a similar idea but with some Thunder Wolf cav and a higher point cost, you should check it out.

God knows Id love to but my wife has to work so I have my son for the day. Ill be up at Arsenal next week for that APOC game perhaps after that, if neither of us are tired of 40K, we can throw down a 1500 pt game. Heck almost forgot I gotta work next Friday at Arsenal until ten so if you want to throw down some one on one action ill be there from 3 to 10 PM.

I'm down with the Friday aspect...the Apoc game is going to be a tough one as I have to work Saturday night...maybe I can switch shifts with someone to throw in.

Lord, you're right on the call of this being similar to a list Goatboy ran at Adepticon, I actually modeled this slightly after it and have become fanatically addicted to it. I've been running something of a gunline with Bjorn for a while and this is a much welcomed change of pace for me.

By the way good game, next time I play against you ill only one vanquisher and two valks, I had way too much anti tank and you didnt have enough for me to kill.

MC Hammer and Hanibal the Canibal are awesome names!

The only problem with a list like that, is that one PBS and shoot a few wolves and the whole things runs off the board. Or, tank shock the hell out of it, and again, they run off the board.

In most cases it probably curb stomps people as that much kill in one death star is brutal.

Psyker Battle Squads are a horrid threat; however, this is one of those instance where you just have to position right and have good target priority to avoid disaster.

The Tank Shocking Issue...yeah, I've thought about this and well...after Turn 2 the heroes will be all over the board and spread out so if they get Tank Shocked they'll be on the opponents side of the Board so I can afford the 3d6 fall back and well, they can only force 1 or 2 to run without exposing themselves to a large amount of fire.

@nieto: I'll be ready for anything next time man. I'll pretty much say that was one of my most enjoyable games in a while and one that I was clearly at a disadvantage for almost from turn 1 on.

Mech guard are pretty hard to play against, those Russ's are boss however you look at them. My next build for my guard is a CC guard army. I had to fight Straken today and he mauled 6 termies before finally being laid low, plus Yarrik was there to help him.

By the way we had 20 russ's, and 4 baneblades today for the APOC game and still managed to lose to traitor guard and Eldar. Stupid Eldar and their APOC units of death. Today's game was totally epic, too bad you couldnt make it.

Aye, sounds like it was quite a blast. Close Combat guard can be ridiculous; however, don't forget their need for some firepower to make them capable! Oh and penal legionnaires! Those guys are pretty nasty as well.

You need more cavalary.

You cannot put 2 lists, cav and mech, into one 1500 army.

I'll let the results speak for themselves.

2 Razorbacks in no way constitutes mech...They're just there for the Lascannons...

Besides...more cavalry wouldn't be as fun as having single models that can take down whole units per turn...just not as...heroic.
