Hey folks, I'm picking up an AOBR box mainly for the termies, dread, and to give my friend orks. I've seen lots of thread about converting the terminators and dread (I have also done quite a bit of AOBR termie converting). But what about the tactical marines? Does anyone have pictures of cool conversions to make them more interesting? I already have a squad of AOBR marines, so I'm hesitant to take another with identical poses. What should I do to change them up?

i am not sure there is a whole lot you can do, with just the AoBR marines, you would more than likely need a box of Tactical marines to get extra parts and the like.

Not much you can do with those models...To make them seem less like an AoBR Tactical Squad add some purity seals and grenades/pouches.

i've used laurels and such from the tactical marines box, to make them seem less.... AoBR, my squad that i have, mixes fairly well with the rest of my Tact marines, sometimes i have to look fairly close to figure out which model is which. if the paint is consistent then you shouldn't have to many problems.

Not much yah can do with them...other than the Hvy weapon guy, the sgt and the Capt. Used an old Eldar Plasma cannon for the HW guy, seeing as how the eldar no longer use them and it is pretty much a dead ringer for the current marine plasma cannon. Leftover heads and Power fists from the rouge trader marine box.

Ahh the old right handed powerfist... I've got a bunch of those. The detail kind of sucks but I still love em.

Well...

I have done some fairly radical conversions on the models from the box of 3 CSM. It involved completely sawing of the Arms, cutting off the head and using spare BT pieces and heads. I could post some pics of the Trio. One of them has a Chaos Backpack as a tempory replacement as one of my cats chewed up the original SM one I had for it. They are still unpainted.

So the converting of AoBR marines should prove to be just as interesting since the models are similar. (My brother owns the set and I made a minor conversion to his Termie Sgt. so that he fits the BT codex). As long as you have several spare: shoulder pads, arms and weapons (CC ones are pretty neat) then it should be quite easy. But the model has to be hacked up in order for any decent conversions to be done.

The four standard dudes were converted from Black Reach to be Archeotech Priests (counts as Noise Marines) but I think that's about as converted as can be easily done. Shoulder pad conversions are easy though.

For a Macraage marine, I trimmed away the flamer barrel and tank, and grafted on a plasma pistol. I don't have the AOBR marines, but I think they are similar enough that this kind of conversion would work just fine.

Rangerbob,
Thanks for the eldar plamacannon tip. I think I have a few of those, lying around, and I certainly have more marines with missile launchers than I want!

Thanks, it's super easy to do.

Even though plas pistols aren't quite as common as they were in the old assault marine kits, if you make a request here or over at Bartertown, plasma pistols are really easy to get. I put a plasma gun in every one of my IG squads by grafting plas pistols onto flamers.
