Last week was the start of our new campaign and new ranking system. Everyone started at 500 and we went up and down from there. I start this second week after a total massacre tied for bottom.

I wish I would have taken a picture of the mission sheet like last week because that would have really cleared things up.

Each side starts with 6 tokens and has to break up their lists into 6 parts. Each part could include Heavy, Elite, Troop or whatever. They do not have to be equal in anyway. An IC could be 1/6th if you wanted to, which is what I did. Each person takes turns placing the tokens and then roll off to see which tokens you get. Even got blue and odd got white. The goal is to get back to your own deployment zone which was 12” deep along the long table edge and 48” wide.

Whoever had more of their stuff in the deployment zones based on victory points is the winner. Potentially there could be zero causualties and still a clear winner. So exactly opposite of why I play 40K! I don’t think my play style meshes well with the last campaign at this store. The only games I won this year are normal 5th edition games.

We setup the tokens in a checkerboard format. Other games just set them up all in a line near their own deployment zones. Dan plays Demons so they had to figure out what to do on the spot.

I had a new list ready to go but forgot it at work so I just used the same one as last week.

Kendal and I have similar lists: Orks with vehicles, he uses Deff Koptas and I use Tankbustas but otherwise an even match. The rule on the setup was the “tokens” had to be 12” apart but the units only had to be 1” after deployment. I split my Bikes into 1 unit, the Boss into another, Mega Nobz in Trukk into the Third, Boyz into Trukks into 4th and 5th units, and the Big Mek KFF in Battlewagon with the Burnas and Tankbustas all together in one unit.

Just as we are about to start, someone mentions the “Random” deployment. Kendal, who is a great guy, and I look at each other confused. I didn’t bother reading the rules, they were handed to him and I assumed he read through them. As I said, nothing against Kendal (he’s a fellow Ork player after all) but I should have read the rules myself. My fault.

Turns out that placement of your pre-designated Sixths is also random! I would have made my Sixths differently of course, as would Kendal. We finally get everything setup after rolling for placements.

Alright kids, I have a thought experiment for you all:
2 Ork armies are deployed in a checkboard fashion with no unit less than about 12” away from each other. Which army is going to dominate, the one who goes first or the one who goes second?

Here’s deployment. The lower left is one of his empty Battlewagon’s in my deployment area, then on the terrain is his Trukk Mob in their Trukk and another mob of 20 Orks. In the middle of the shot is my KFF Big Mek on the Battlewagon with Burna’s inside and my squad of Tankbustas looking greedily at his second Battlewagon just to the north of them. Just beyond that is my Lone Biker Boss. The upper right part of the shot shows a second group of Kendal’s Orks similar to the ones on the terrain piece. 20 boyz and a full Trukk Mob. On the right edge is my 12 Ork Floppy Bike Mob and then finally one of my Trukk mobs with the white wheels. Yeah, chicks dig ‘em.

This second deployment shot shows my other Trukk Mob behind his Battlewagon. Check out the kustom Deff-rolla on that thing. You can see his Deff Koptas peeking out. On the other side of the terrain (out of sight) is my Mega Nobz in Trukk. That’s where I deployed my Biker Boss originally before the Great Deciever made us all change our deployment.

Kendal wins the roll to go first with a six which was the only important roll of the whole game. First turn Ork-on-Ork isn’t pretty. This picture shows the result of his Nobz and Boss and KFF Mek assaulting 12 boyz who just got their Trukk shot out from under them. Notice the hole between his Nobz? That is where his Big Mek used to be. I used all my Nobz 3 Power Klaw attacks on him, hit him once, wounded him, and he failed his 5+ inv save. This picture is the highlight of the game for me. Never underestimate a Nob who is surrounded. I lose combat after only having the Nob survive and he is run down.

This picture shows his Orks either running to their deployment zones or towards my boyz after completely destroying my Biker Boss and Bikes serperatly. His 19 Boyz were able to kill all 12 Bikes with toughness 5 and 4+ armor saves before they could strike back. Had I known the deployment was random, I would have paired the Boss with the Bikes as I usually do. Just like the last photo, what you don’t see on the table is what is important. That’s 495 points that never inflicted a single loss on the opponent due to this screwy setup, and me not reading the rules. All the blue Orks and Trukks are his which makes it very easy to tell the difference between my Orks.

Here is the end of my first turn. I’ll tell ya what happened:
The Mega Nobz make very short work of his Battlewagon in my deployment zone on the left side of the pic. 24 PK attacks on the charge, a terrible waste of their potential considering my Lone Biker Boss could have killed it. Red Mob jumped out of their Trukk, gave it to the Tankbustas, who climbed in, and then ran to cover. Burnas in BW move forward and glance the hell out of his Trukk on the terrain piece. I got Imobilized, stunned and shaken results but no Kaboom. Tankbustas are able to shoot and exploded his second Battlewagon. He feels the loss emotionally but he was happy to sacrifice them. His non-Trukk boyz on the terrain piece ran off towards his deployment zone during his turn. Forgot to mention that.

This picture shows the end of his second turn. He called the Waaagh but the boyz at the bottom missed my Red Mob in terrain by about a half an inch during the assault phase. His Trukk boyz on the terrain flee their broken-down Trukk. At this point (the start of my second turn) I could just consolidate everything in my deployment zone and get a draw. This is against everything Orky in my nature so of course I don’t do that What the hell is the point of that? Winning a game? Who gives a rat’s arse? I’m here to see Orks die. Mine or his, doesn’t matter which, preferably both.

This is the end of my 2nd turn. Everything is slowly moving towards his deployment zone, killing things on the way. Red Mob stays put in terrain firing their one Rokkit and actually killing stuff demonstrating my only constraint. To the left of the photo (not pictured), the Mega Nobz got back in their Trukk and moved towards my other stuff.

The final shot shows the end of my third turn. It’s on his side of the table since all the action is happening here. What’s missing is my Battlewagon, KFF Mek, and Burnas, and the Mega Nobz’ Trukk. His shooting was decent but the real failure was my cover saves. I charged the Mek and Burnas into combat hoping to take out some Nobz but they didn’t have much effect. Next turn he shoots my Mega Nobz with 41 pistol shots and they don’t take a single wound. Too little, too late. I charge them in and the rest of the game is long range Orky shooting = boring.

Sorry about the lack of photos. My camera battery was almost dead so I had to conserve shots.

He has at least 1000 points left to my 160 so he gets a Major Victory and will be tied for first place next week. My race for the bottom was successful and I’ll be all alone at the bottom.

Don't worry man, I only somehow, barely, pulled a draw out in my game versus Sean and his Space Wolves.

Awesome write up once again.

Nice battle report, also week 2 listings are up and you're not at the bottom. That position's held by Trent and his Necrons.
