My uncle used to play with his brother back in the bad old days but has lost interest in the hobby as a whole, so he passed all of his RT and 2nd stuff on to me. I was pretty thrilled to have a pile of old rulebooks to read through, but he also had a huge collection of models too and I got to wondering - is this old out of production stuff valuable at all? Lots of it is in poor shape and already assembled and painted (but the poorly put together/painted models hardly look better than the properly done ones, jesus christ these dudes were ugly 15 years ago) but there's some of it that's in really good condition and some that's even still in the packaging.

I don't have a camera, so here's my best assessment of what all this junk is:

50 squats with various "normal" weapons (lasguns, bolters, pistol and sword, etc). Maybe a couple of these are engineers, sergeants, minor heroes, etc?

22 squats with mixed heavy and special weapons

2 HQ type dudes w/ power fist and bolt pistol

2 of what I'm guessing are psykers, they've got robes and swords

1 dude with some kind of banner pole

1 squat tech priest (yes really) w/ axe and pistol

Inquisitor in terminator armor (he has a power fist and a bionic leg)

5 "chaos warriors" - that's what it says on their tabs, but I've never seen these before. The other side says they're from 1988. They're in powered armor, but it's shaped differently from armor from any edition, it's slimmer and more angular, some have horns on their helmets and others have crests. They all have an axe attached to one arm and are holding a pistol in the other.

1 what I'm guessing is an oooooollllld keeper of secrets. It has a bull head with the slaanesh symbol on it, 4 arms 2 of which have crab claws and it's human sized on a 25mm base.

All of the above is assembled and either unpainted, primed, or poorly painted. None of the models that are primed or painted have so much gooped on that detail is obscured at all and it doesn't look like anything is sealed, and since it's all pewter it should be very easy to strip. I've also got a bag with maybe 9 or 10 unassembled and untouched pewter squats of various types and a huge bag of rogue trader plastic marines which are mostly (badly) painted and in poor condition, some pieces missing, poorly assembled, etc.

There's a bunch of books and other junk too:

A complete second edition starter set, with everything EXCEPT the models (if it came with any.. ?) - dice, templates, cards, even the terrain pieces made of card.

Codex Tyranids
Codex Space Wolves
Codex Imperialis
Codex Eldar
Codex Imperial Guard
Dark Millennium
Wargear rulebook
Core rulebook
Vehicle manual
How to make wargames terrain - I think there might be a new version of this, this one is copyright 1996
Warhammer 40k Battles
White Dwarfs 162 and 167

All of the books and magazines are in VERY good condition. If you saw them on a shelf, you'd think they were new. If you open one though it's easy to tell they're 20 years old, since the crappy cheap binding is worn down - all the pages are still attached in all of them though, they're in as good a shape as you could possibly expect a book to be after so long.

And finally, 4 blisters which are unopened and untouched:

RT510 Adeptus Mechanicus - 3 humans, 1 squat
8019 Squat Engineers - 2 models
071105 Squat Adventurers - 6 models
7107 Warlord and Hearthguard - 4 models

So yeah, that's everything. I'm NOT looking to sell (yet), I'm just curious if any of this stuff is worth anything at all since all of it is out of production, and some of it I assume is pretty rare these days.

If nobody has even a rough appraisal for me, is there a site I can go to to find out?

You need a camera.

I figured if anything was worth anything at all a collector would be able to say "ooh, rt0241! only 6 of those were ever made!" or whatever. Practically everything cast in RT and 2nd ed was fething hideous, nobody will buy this stuff for any reason other than rarity.

There's a collection of old catalogs here which has pictures of almost everything I've got. The 1989 and 1994 catalogs have the most relevant stuff.

All of the squat stuff will net around $3-$5 a model.

Other than that its not worth much.

Still, if you take a PICTURE people will be able to tell you better. Just throwing out numbers because you wrote words isnt going to give you a good guess.

Squats sell pretty well, like Clthomps said. Don't throw out the Squat bitz and adventurers, if nothing else you can include them with Squat army troops as a sweetener.

The rulebooks are pretty much worthless.

You might get something for the beaky marines. Even just their heads are worth something to a player who wants to make an all beaky head army.

In general, have a look on eBay and see what is floating around for a couple of weeks.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

some of the squat stuff can get to $10-15 a fig, easy. Still in blister? Damn nice.

As others have said, pictures rule.

The old rules and codexii are probably worth 2-5 bucks each, though.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I collect RT era stuff. This description tells me nothing.
I may be interested in the models but without pictures or part numbers to refer to the catalogs I wouldn't be able to purchase anything from you.
Do you know how many different 'dudes with some kind of banner poles' were made?

The Squats and Adeptus Mechanicus stuff will fetch a good price. Books aren't worth a whole lot. I also collect RT and 2nd ed stuff - if you post some pictures I might be interested in taking a few models off your hands.

The Codices are worth a LOT to some people... after all, second edition codices have a TON of fluff, especially for those of us stuck with crappy third edition/fourth edition codices which have almost none in comparison.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I am interested mostly in the books, though I am also interested in the Chaos models. If you could post pictures, I would happy to negotiate a deal. : )

You're right, all those dudes are squats. I should have clarified that. PF dude and banner pole dude are both on this page here

I can't find a picture of the squats in robes and I don't know how to describe them because they're the most shockingly bland models I've ever seen. The tab that attaches to the base says spiritmaster if that helps.. ?

Those could be the Living Ancestors. Are they bald with beards and elderly looking? Armed with a sword or a cane?

Your best bet is to take some pictures of what you've got. In blister is best. Bare metal and unaseembled a close second and anything else is kind of meh.

You should post a detailed list of your items ion the Swap Shop, with pics, and let the offers come in.
