I know im probably going to get blasted into space with this question, I tried searching but could not find an answer.
In 4th edition, you could not shoot through an assault.
In 5th edition, is this still the same, or did I miss something in the rule book that is obvious.
Thanks for reading.

You cannot shoot at models engaged in an assault.
Two units engaged in an assault have no special rules or exceptions to the True LoS rule, so they would only grant a cover save to a unit shooting through them at another unit, unless they blocked LoS 100%.

You can shoot through an assault so long as you can actually see your target.

It's worth noting that "intervening models" confer a 4+ cover save.

They did that in earlier editions too; they just had a special rule that allowed it.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

ALso in 4th ed you *could* shoot through a combat, as long as you were one level greater than all combatants, e.g. vehicles and MCs could see over a level 2 fight but not one involving another MC, and Marines could see over a fight between scarabs and rippers.
In this situation combat blocks LOS as normal, no need to abstract it at all.
