Lexicanum has piddly amounts of info. They sound like an awesome legion. Dose anyone know anything significant about them?

Forever alone

They're rough-and-tumble Guardsmen who do way too many combat-stims.

That's all there is to them, to be honest. However, that gives you plenty of room for your own fluff.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

They make for awesome models. If I could have one Imperial Guard army fully done as a canon force, it would be the Chem Dogs.

Like they said, they're doped up on chems. They get conscripted into the Guard on the terms that they fight a lot and get to keep any loot they can lift.

Kinda like pretty much the rest of the Guard, really, except these guys look cooler.

Bernard, float over here so I can punch you.

...urrrr... I dunno

They fight higher than kites. It's to do with their rebreathers. The squaddies tend to modify them so that they emit drug fumes as well as breathable air.
Why do they do this?...

Because, that's why.

I remember reading something about them, too. Savlar Chem Dogs are your basic underhive scum from some hellhole that is SO bad that they would rather fight in the Guard than live there. I think if the Chem Dogs screw up something, they are threatened with being sent back to their homeworld; that usually does the trick. Yeah, it's THAT bad there.

Well, and since these guys don't have the honour and discipline of Cadian Shock Troopers or the balls of steel the Catachans have, they need some extras to fight as a proper unit. These guys are not really your elite Guardsmen regiment that wants to make the Emperor proud or redeem their homeworld (Death Korps); these are just men and women trying to get away from that abyssal place where they come from. Therefore, their morale might be lower than that of the more famous regiments. To keep them from fleeing head over heels from their enemies, they have these helmets that automatically release combat drugs into their sealed helmets when their commander presses a button. This way, the Guardsmen that might have faltered before an overwhelming foe and fled for their dear lives are turned into hyped-up killing machines who don't fear anything.

Yeah, this is a bit darker than the "THEY DO COCAINE!"-flavour posted before, but as far as I remember, the fluff goes along those lines.

They also "acquire" equipment/vehicles from other legions.

Wasn't it the Chem Dogs that were in that short story where the kleptomaniac Guard squad was trying to take out a bunker? It was the one where they had given the arsonist the flamer rig. The sergeant grabs up the helmet that one of the crispy corpses had dropped to put it on, realized that one of his squadmates was scalping the dead bodies, and makes a mental note that it's an offense. Not because he's collecting scalps, but because he recognized the knife that the guy was using came from his own backpack.
