So, here is my quandary. The 1750 pt GW Hobby Center tourney is coming up this weekend, and I have been debating about entering.

The thing is, I've only played about 6 or 7 games of 40k, and only one with my army's new codex (I play IG, if it matters). To make matters worse, the last game I played was last June, nearly a year ago. So, I'm a bit rusty at the rules. However, I would really like to enter, as it sounds like fun. My concern is that my opponent might be aggravated by my unfamiliarity with the rules (although that may be softened by the likelihood that I would be an easy victory ). What do you guys think? Should I go ahead and throw down at my local GW on Saturday, or should I wait until I've gotten a little more experience in the game?

Bearing in mind that you'll be playing on the clock you really do need to be up to speed on the rules. If your game only goes a few turns and your opponent only gets a minor victory as a result that's going to hurt their chances badly.

Id say go,but do study up on the rules, and if you have a question at the game, do ask.

Thanks for the input. I think that all in all, I will be better off just playing some friendly games this weekend. There will be other tournaments!

Just find a friend and pound out as many games as you can in the remaining time.

I think you should go.

Depends on the place, depends on the tourney, depends on the people there. Personally, my FLGS has a great environment, so most of us wouldn't care much if the game ended early because of people who didn't understand the rules so well. OTOH, if you go to a really strict store with a poor playing environment, you'd be better off picking up some friendly games to earn some experience first.

I say go, just mention to your opponent that you are new the these rules.

I don't mind at all playing new player, even if he is a little slower than more seasoned players. Everyone has to learn some time, and tournaments are open to who ever wants to join them, the more the merrier.

I had this same situation last year, and I decided to go anyway. It was a mistake for where I was playing at as I was slowing the game down and didn't understand my opponents codex. He was able to pull off shady moves due to my lack of knowledge. But i say go only if it's a relaxed enviroment otherwise study the rules and codex's and play some friendly games.
