So I tried my hand at creating a list with a Carnosaur. After some great help, I think I landed with a solid list (see http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/295149.page). In an effort to see how viable my carnosaur list is, I decided to come up with a Slann list to compare how the different lords affect the army list and style.

Core (632pts)
------------
18x Saurus Warriors
- Spear
- Musician
- Champion
- Standard Bearer

18x Saurus Warriors
- Spear
- Musician
- Champion
- Standard Bearer

10x Skink Skirmishers

10x Skink Skirmishers

Special (368pts)
------------
3x Terradon Riders

14x Temple Guard
- Standard Bearer
- Sun Standard of Chotec

Rare (0pts)
------------

Characters (1244pts)
------------
1x Slann Mage Priest
- Focus of Mystery
- Focused Rumination
- Dispel Scroll
- Cupped Hands of the Old Ones
- Bane Head
- Battle Standard Bearer
- War Banner

1x SKink Priest
- Level 2 Wizard
- Diadem of Power
- Dispel Scroll
- Ancient Stegadon with Engine of the Gods

1x Skink Chief
- Light Armour
- Shield
- Stegadon
- Stegadon War-spear

Total
------------
Models in Army: 76
Total Army Cost: 2244

Just like my original Carnosaur, I can't seem to decide how to shave the extra points I have over my total.

Perhaps removing the Dispel Scroll from my Slann? but I love to deny my opponents magic phase.

Like some suggested for my Carnosaur list, remove the champions from the Saurus blocks?

Are Temple Guard just to good to take when having a Slann? and also, what do you think the optimal unit size when taking a slann? 14 would make a 6x3 but i have seen people take 16 for a 5 frontage. Is this optimal?

Is two standards in a Temple Guard unit optimal as well? and what banner's do you recommend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cant seem to decide on Carnosaur or Slann...

I realize an easy way to shave the points. I put a musician with my Temple Guard but they become unbreakable with a Slann in the unit and will never flee and thus will never get the bonus to rally

This one is easy, your Skink Chief doesn't need Light Armour or a Shield, as he is already benefitting from the 3+ Armour Save the Stegadon grants him.

I know someone (maybe Red_Zeke? Kirbinator? Boss_Salvage? plusArgon?) was really pushing for keeping musicians in temple guard units in another list that was being discussed, and somewhat convinced me. It sounds like Airmaniac has found an easier source of points for you

This looks good, although I find it a lot more boring than the last list. The big 3 HQ (Slann, EoTG, and Cheif with War Spear) are very, very common in lists, from what I've seen. I LOVE the War Spear skink priest, but once you put in a slann too, it's OTT imho.

Just figured I'd put in my vote for the other list here as well The extra mobility will make the other list more fun to play, too, I think- this one will be quite slow for the most part.

Your right RiTides, I'm worried about getting out maneuvered with this list as i'm relying on my terradons and skirmishers to much. the Carnosaur provided that mobility to get charges on the flanks. This list does have a more aggressive magic phase of which the other lacked, plus I love having as much Stegadon's on the board as I can

I'm all for the two steggies! Just not the slann and temple guard at the expense of the CoC and Carnosaur

I am not a fan of the Scroll on the Slann. While it is unlikely he will get killed, there is always the risk and those extra twenty-five points will only help to hurt you more. Personally, I would go with a second support Priest in place of the Warspear Chief (and maybe fit in some CoC/Kroxigor). While the Stegadon is a beautiful unit, they are massive magnets for EVERYTHING. The EotG will give the enemy trouble enough, the second one will just make them angry. People really hate Stegs (especially at my FLGS, which just closed :(, after I ran a five Steg list). While I really like them, I think that this list could use something a bit more reliable to make it into the game more turns (ie CoC or Kroxigor).

If you are dead set on keeping two in the list then you are going to want keep the EotG and the Warspear close together for the 5+ ward over shooting and so that they can support each other when in CC. This disadvantage of this is that you are limiting the hammering power of the two being used separately.
