Reclusiarch
Jump Pack, Infernus Pistol - 170
Death Company (5)
Jump Pack, 1 Infernus Pistol - 190
Sanguinary Priest (2)
Jump Packs, Infernus Pistol (each)- 180
Assault Squad (5)
Sgt: Infernus Pistol, 1 Infernus Pistol - 130
Assault Squad (5)
Sgt: Infernus Pistol - 115
Devistator Squad (5)
Las Cannon, Multi-Melta - 125
Wirlwind - 90
1000 total
I plan on attaching the Reclusiarch with the Death Company, and a Sanguinary Priest to each assault Squad. The devistator squad was going to sit in back and protect the WW as best it can, and rain fire/take shots of opportunity.
Does this sound like a viable list? I have read people generally dont like the Whirlwind, but I wanted to give it a try and see. I took a lot of Infernus pistols basically for CC and dealing with armor when I get close.
I am extremely new to 40k, if this sounds like it'll totally fail (due to the range on infernus, or something) please feel free to offer suggestions, thats why I'm posting!

Being new... yes on paper a WW looks okay for the points spent but I would look at direct fire being your friend to support your assault marines - lose the devastators and WW for a couple of predators - either regular or baal.
You could lose one sanguinary priest - 6" radius not being in the squad for bonuses. I would rather see you get your troop selection numbers up and have a 10-man assault squad. You need to control objectives in most games and you have a meager 10 wounds on those 2 demi-squads of assault marines to do it.
Deathcompany is fluffy but way too pricey for those jump packs. 190 points for 3+ armor, FNP and reroll wounds and hits. A little more gets you sanguinary guard with 2+ armor and 5 MC power weapons. I just don't like the 15 points per jump pack. You could put them in a rhino and have points to spare.

Hey Worms. I'm with DAaddict on this one. You are seriously lacking in troops, which are your backbone in 2/3 of every game you play. My suggestion would be to bring both of them up to 10 man squads and grab a second special weapon (2x flamers or meltas works well). As for infernus pistols YMMV, but I think at the cost of a single chainsword attack you can get a cheaper and yet better ranged meltagun.
Your devastators should really drop the MM. You want them in the backfield providing fire support and that MM is just to short range. All ML is a nice choice I see a lot of players run with success.
As for the WW, yeah it does look good on paper, but there are better tanks out there for similar point costs. You have enough anti-tank with all of the infernus/meltaguns you have running around so running a Baal predator instead may be the optimal choice. Do remember that all BA tanks are fast, so you have a "free" 6 inches and can still shoot everything. Might as well as use that to your advantage to keep a better armored front of a predator or vindicator towards your enemy.
DC are awesome and have great new models, but at smaller point games they're a big point sink IMO. I personally use mine as normal assault troops after filing down the DC specific iconography. For that 190 points you could have a full scoring assault squad and still keep the FnP and Furious charge with the priest in range.
Anyway, hope this helps and good luck in your games.

I'm a big fan of infernus pistols on my assult squads, with there 12 inch movement the 6 inch range on the pistol isnt usually a problem considering I usually hold my assult marines back till I know where on the line they will be most needed.

Again YMMV on infernus pistols. I personally like to DS a combat squaded RAS and I find, even with DoA, that the extra 6 inches is worth it over a single chainsword attack.

Oh, I agree with Nine should have just said it in my last post, alot of it comes down to your play style and how you use your units armed with them.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that they are much better then plasma pisotls

Thanks for the help, how does this look?
Reclusiarch
Jump Pack, Infernus Pistol - 170
Sanguinary Priest
Jump Pack, Infernus Pistol - 90
Assault Squad (10)
2 Melta Guns - 210
Assault Squad (10)
1 Melta Gun - 200
Baal Preds
2 HB Side Sponsons each - 330
1000 total
Reclusiarch/SP with a Squad, pincer with the preds. I ended up with 900 points before I upgraded the Baal preds to have the HB sponsons.. I am not sure I like sinking so many points into them like that but I couldn't figure out what to dump 100 pts into. If you think the investment is bad for the sponsons.. have any advice on what to buy at that point?

Much better. Are you still using the flamestorm turret on the Baal predators or did you switch them out for the TL AC? If you want you can consider dropping sponsons for powerfists on both assault squads and another meltagun. Playtest it and see what you like and go from there. If you want to save points you can try a librarian with Unleash Rage instead of the reclusiarch. They're squishier, but give the benefit of a reclusiarch every player turn instead of just the charge. Works great if you wade into a fearless horde you can't break.
