I am aware that I am probably not the first person to do this, and shall not be the last, but let us enjoy it whilst it lasts. Simply put, which of the current codexes in your opinion are blessed with the most impressive cover art? Reasons as to why would be apprecited. As for me-it is a tough call, but I am going to have to vote for regular Space Marine and Dark angel artworks-they encapsulate the dynamic and power a Space Marine should have.

Seeing them all lined up like that, it's kind of shocking how the quality has gone down with 5th ed.

I agree with the quality going down...and I was surprised at my choice after seeing them all together as I didn 't think it'd be in the running for me, but I went with the Necrons. I think think it perfectly displays sheer cold malevolence that encompasses the Necron race. The others either just didn't properly represent thier respective armies (imho) and/or look like they belong more as a sidepanel on the pages of a comic book more than being a showpiece artwork.

Gotta be deamonhunters for me, an old man in Power Armour, surrounded by flames and skulls with a deamon red sky alone save for his trusty retinue, just highlights for me how pointless and thankless their endeavor is, they'll never win but they'll spend their extended lifetime's trying

Eldar for me.

I love the composition in that picture.

Imperial Guard easily. It's like an old splash page from the Bash Street Kids, you can stare at it for ages looking at all the little things happening in the background.

It's really hard to decide though some a down right awful (Blood Angels and Tyrinids) but I'm torn between the kind of marching space wolves and those necrons (the front cover just represents the necrons so well, marching metal Schwarzeneggers )

Daemonhunters and Witchhunters are super-badass. Tyranids and Blood Angels are super-terrible. Like seriously, atrocious.

Black Templars, Tyranids and Witch Hunters are all pretty good. You should make it a multiplr choice poll.

I like Space Marine one myself, with the Tactical Marine taking down the Chaos Marine at point blank range.

Witch Hunters for me, still one of my fave covers over all GW releases, just a shame if current rumour is right we won't be seeing them it that context for a good while. (If the Sisters gain an Inq choice at all.)

Space Wolves looks pretty awesome, especially compared to the other 5th edition ones. Necrons and Dark Angels also look good (The Necrons coverart really does a good job of defining them). Imperial Guard is a different style, but I like it.

Worst? Definitely Tyranids. At least Blood Angels looks slightly actiony, even if it is horrible. Tyranids? The Carnifex is literally just standing there. And nids look scarier when they're actually in an army; the guys are too spread out.

I like the Black Templars and Tau. The art is done well and the poses are more dynamic. It appears that they are moving on some sort of mission, instead of just standing around in a strange posed circle.

I like the Tau, Eldar, Space Marine, Black Templar and Necrons the best, I'd struggle to choose a favourite out of them - maybe Eldar.

However, as been said, the Blood Angel codex cover is truly laughable and the Tyranid one is pretty crud too.

I like the DE codex art because it's simple, it's DE, and it's not overblown.
Plus 'The Beautiful People' runs through my head every time I see it.

Space Wolves' the best in my opinion and Blood Angels, with its tiny head, huge foot, and giant bolt pistol, is undisputably the worst.

Close call, but I have to go with the Black Templars and Imperial Guard covers. Templars because I love the art style, IG because I love the action.

I'd agree with you completely, but the IG codex has a very washed out look that makes it look like a bad scan of a painting. I do agree with you about the Templars, but I chose the Daemonhunters.

Orks and Imperial Guard, by far.

Their all equally ugly. I wish they were more like the Fantasy ones, but even then some of the fantasy ones are just horrible.

Daemonhunters. Unlike most of the other ones that are just a matter of fitting as many characters in as possible, the Daemonhunters one actually has a sense of movement and action. And the detail is just incredible.

All of the art, which i noticed before I looked here, seem to be VERY cartoonie. Seems GW is getting lazy...

I love how you can see what's exiting the wound of the Chaos Marine on the SM Codex! Nothing like a 3/4'' bolt blowing your internal organs out.
