So, having in my last 3 games Tank Shocked 17 units off the board, I am starting to feel a little bad about it!

Is it "acceptable" to base your list around tank shocking, in particular Mechanised Eldar (since they have no Firepower outside the 3 Fire Prisms).

LOL! I love it. I think its a ligit way to play. The obvious down fall is if they get a successful No Guts No Glory role.
But if you have enough armor to pull it of I dont see a problem with it.

The question I have is what are you tank shocking? Did they even try to stand up to it?
It just blows my mind to think your opponent did not have an answer for it.

Yes, they did Stand Up to it, but they failed a lot of their Morales and even when they Passed, Wave Serpants are very, VERY hard to put down. Hell, they are essentially AV14 vs S10 weapons!

I think it's great. Leadership mechanics are potentially as effective as shooting or assaulting in removing enemy units from the table. I'd love to see an army built around that as one of thier primary mechanics (assuming they have fairly reliable ways of getting the squishies out of thier metal bawkses).

Sisters of Battle say hi. So many Immolators, carrying Meltagun passengers. Tankshock enemy units off the table, or cluster up the fearless ones for prepacked easy-bake meals. Heretics are delicious when deep-fried in batter and promethium.

No, I'm talking about an army that's basicly full of things with abilities like psyker battle squads, broodlords, pariahs. The wouldn't be able to shoot worth a damn and would get hacked to pieces in CC generally speaking, but basicly destroy the opponents minds. Something to mess up the "shot the choppy and chop the shooty" order of things. You couldn't have it based strictly on forcing morale checks with all the "Fearless" units running around, but have powers that would reduce stats and such to "debuff" such units so they would be managable with crappy stats and such.

It's not a realistic wish but everytime I see something like the afore mentioned pariahs, etc, I think of what it would be like to field/play against an army like that.

That's an interesting concept for an army. You should try to work out a list and play subs.

Once I get my books back from my buddy I might give it a go.

England.

The problem with building a list around tank shocking is the rarity of troops with low leadership, no transport and no way of bolstering the leadership.
The only troops like that are non commissared guardsmen, Tau, and foot eldar really. Almost every other army is meched or fearless.
So no I don't think its a valid tactic to base your entire army build on. I much prefer to think as tank shock as an objective taker or something for a stunned vehicle to do.

But if you have a skimmer with strong front armour you could do serious damage with it.

I've thought about running a paired Eldar skimmer/Necron Pariahs list in a doubles tourney, if the club ever gets round to running one. Ld7 + Tank Shock = nice odds.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Wh curently have a power that reduces LD by 3
Culexus assassin makes all units within 12" LD7

Note the Culexus assassin, currently any imperial army can take one. There is another option for you.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Blood Angels have a psychic power that reduces leadership and forces tests, plus a plethora of FAST tanks; they might be able to pull it off. My buddy who plays BA doesn't even do this on purpose, but still tank shocks quite frequently and strategically, often to good effect (except against the random tankbusta... lol).

The "not realistic" comment was meant that it's not realistic to expect that GW will release an army any time soon based almost completely around breaking an army through morale and psychic powers.

no because it'd be too restrictive so they won't. But it's probably possible to do it with the right army list.
