Subject: semi competitive Eldar 1500 for summer.

Hey guys, I just got home for summer break, and am looking to get some 1500 point games in. My 1500 point list is currently rather weak, but I've done some tweaking, and I am rather happy with this one. I just need to convert a second bike lock, and paint him. I'm trying to make this list out of units I own, and unfortunately I don't own any fire dragons, and only 2 serpents. Keeping that in mind, here is my proposed 1500 list. HQ: 313 Farseer- Doom, Fortune, stones, spear, both runes (runs with Avengers) Yriel (Runs with Avengers) Troops: 847 10 Storm Guardians w/ Lock- 2 flamers, destructor Wave Serpent- lance, stones 10 Dire Avengers- exarch, power weapon + shimmer shield, defend Wave Serpent- lance, stones 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden Heavy Support: 350 Fire Prism Fire Prism 2 Warwalkers- 4 scatter laser. Total: 1500 This is attempting to make up for the lack of fire dragons with singing spears, 2 lances and focus prism blasts to knock out heavier vehicles. HQs and Avengers form a counter charge unit, which can engage enemies if need be, or contribute to shooting. The other version of this list makes the following changes to the Avengers, Farseer and Warwalkers: 148 Farseer- guide, doom, stones, spear, warding, witnessing 152 10 Dire Avengers- exarch, 2 cats, bladestorm 140 2 warwalkers- 4 eml. While it adds a bit more dakka, I feel it doesn't make up for the counter charge ability. All I need to do is convert and paint another bikelock, I already converted one (its a bit shabby, but not godawful for my first conversion and I need the practice if I ever want a whole bike council eventually) I would like to note that I only have 2 warwalkers. otherwise I would run 3 shuri walkers intstead of 2 scatter walkers.

-Lots of your killing power is tied up in those prisms, squeeze points to toss holos on them.
-Lots of points tied up in that DA serpent, expect it to get a lot of love. I'm a much bigger fan of the Bladestorm DA with Warlock.
-Could go either way on the walkers, prob scatters though for anti-infantry.
-Just to clarify, for GJB you must take 3 GJB then you can take an additional Lockbiker. To kit them the way you want it'd be 2 reg jetbikes, 1 Cannon jetbike, Warlock Biker with spear and embolden. Pretty sure that is what you have there

yea, that is the correct interpretation on my guardian jetbike squads. its 3 guardian bikes, one upgraded to a cannon, then a warlock with a spear and embolden, like you said. you'll note that the points add up to that number as well, everything is codex kosher I notice that you mentioned to add holofields to the fire prisms, this confuses me a bit as I've heard that the general consensus is to take em on falcons and not on prisms, the reasons being that once that gun is shot off, the prism becomes a big ram. I also remember reading mathhammer that showed holofields, while they ultimately keep the prism alive longer, they actually increase the odds of that dreaded weapon destroyed result. I'm interested to know the arguments for taking 70 points worth of defensive gear for 2 guns. About the DA serpent: yea, I noticed that too actually, its something ridiculous like 620 points and 4 kill points, which makes it like a death star without the death... just a star really... they did seem like the best body guard I could get for yriel though. Tbh, I always run bladestorm avengers. so you may be right about this point especially.

The Fire Prism debate can go either way really. Formerly being on the Nekkid Prism camp I have since switched.
You are correct the chances of a weapon destroyed result go up, but the chances of a wreck or explosion result go way down. Even if the weapon gets blown off you 1) Not giving up a kill point, 2) can still contest objectives, 3) still have a str 10 Ram, 4) Still have mobile cover, 5) Still give your opponent a threat to fire at.
Yes 35 pts ups the cost significantly, but in my experience it makes a world of difference when you roll annihilation matches alone.

Ok, I haven't actually tried holo prisms. I'll take them for a few rounds then and see how I feel about em. Here is the amended list. HQ: 303 Farseer- Doom, guide, stones, spear, both runes (runs with Avengers) Yriel (Runs with Storm Guardians) Troops: 827 10 Storm Guardians w/ Lock- 2 flamers, destructor Wave Serpent- lance, stones 10 Dire Avengers- exarch, 2 cats, blade storm Wave Serpent- lance 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden Heavy Support: 380 Fire Prism-holo Fire Prism-holo 2 Warwalkers- 4 shuri cannons Total: 1500

Drop the guardians lance to an EML (BL is a lot of points for something that will be in the enemy's face) and drop the stone (playtest and you prob won't miss them) reupgrade the walkers to Scatters.

I was looking at my list, and I was wondering if I would be better off without yriel? You mentioned the benefit of having scatter walkers over shuri walkers but the cuts you mentioned don't save enough points, and a second far seer would give me more doom support. On the other hand, Yriel does provide me with a duder who CAN tackle enemy MEQs etc in melee, and he can add +1 to reserve rolls against armies like IG. How important are those aspects, compared to a second doom seer and another war walker? Anyway here is a potential variation of the list (148) Farseer- Guide, Doom, stones, spear, warding, witnessing (runs with dire avengers (90) Farseer- Doom, witnessing (runs with Storm Guardians) (127) 10 Storm Guardians w/ lock- 2 flamer destructor (135) Wave Serpent- lance (152) 10 Dire Avengers- Exarch, bladestorm, 2 cats (135) Wave Serpent- lance (129) 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden (129) 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden (150) Fire Prism- Holofields (150) Fire Prism- Holofields (150) 3 warwalkers- 3 scatter lasers, 3 shuri cannons

The GJB's are a liability.
I'd take a 6 men squad with two shuricannons and embolden.

I apologize for a the necro, I played my first game of the summer today, and I just wanted to post how the list did and its current form. HQ: 303 Farseer- Doom, guide, stones, spear, both runes (runs with Avengers) Yriel (Runs with Storm Guardians) Troops: 817 10 Storm Guardians w/ Lock- 2 flamers, destructor Wave Serpent- lance 10 Dire Avengers- exarch, 2 cats, blade storm Wave Serpent- lance 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden 3 Gu Bikes w/ Lock- cannon, spear, embolden Heavy Support: 390 Fire Prism-holo Fire Prism-holo 2 Warwalkers- 3 shuri, 1 scatter Total: 1500 I played against the new Blood Angles, he got first turn, so I played everything from reserve, and had my full army by turn 3. We ended up drawing His list wasn't that spectacular, it was a big squad of assault termies in a deep striking landraider with a chappy and carbolo, a lasback a rhino 2 squads of space marines, and some sniper scouts. I would have won had I played my jetbikes better. I will say Bluedagger, that Holofields are worth their weight in gold on those fire prisms. 2 dice, take the lowest really works wonders when it comes to leaving targets on the field for the enemy to shoot at. Consider me converted to the holofields camp. I did well enough just dancing around the land raider all game, however when I move up to 1750 points and beyond, my first purchase should be 2 squads of dragons in 2 wave serpents.
