Hey guys.

-new here- ^^

Haha anyway, enough of the N00bness and on to business.

I have just started collecting an Eldar army, and have just loaded up a Wraithlord with a Wraithsword and dual flamers. (I want him to fight in a CC role)
I was just wondering what ARE the advantages/disadvantages of the wraithsword? I.e. where it is/isn't best utilised, how best to deploy etc. And would/should I take a secondary weapon? If so, what one would work best for his role?

Also if someone could run me through the various (effective) loadouts for the Wraithlord that'd be great xD

Cheers.

Well, I'd equip them for anti-tank support with bright lance and eml.
Wraithlords are too slow and have too less attacks so that their usefulness in cc is very limited.

Generally the best way to run Wraithlords is as a gun platform, they have to be completely killed to be shut down and are one of the only places to get BS4 in an Eldar list for Bright Lances. Taking EML and Bright Lance gives you a decent anti-tank platform. There isn't much point in taking many of the other weapons, they are all essentially anti-infantry weapons (multi-shot S6) and there are other units in the Eldar codex which can do that better for cheaper. The only other loadout I would consider would be the barebones SwordLord to be used simply as an assault battering ram, its cheap and can be effective against some armies. For the most part you want to keep them out of combat though, with only 2 attacks they don't kill much (even with a Sword) and are incredibly vulnerable to hidden fists.

I can't say I've tried it and it definitely wouldn't work as well in larger point games as you would get shot off the table (Eldar can't really waste their Heavy slots), but running 3 cheap combat based Sword Lords (Sword and Dual Flamers) along with an Avatar would be viable and possibly even effective in 1000-1500pt games. It might not be the most effective choice but it would be interesting to play with, just run them at people and see if they can deal with 4 MCs.
