I am considering getting back into WHFB, but it has been a long time since I played. I prefer human armies (a bit more realistic which I like), and I like the idea of having knights on foot. I see that the the Empire no longer has Reiksguard on foot, although the great swords are an option, the Bretonian book doesn't have many options and that Dogs of War have gone the way of the squats.
Any suggestion as to the best army book which to build a heavy infantry force around, and justify why? Any inut greatly appreciated.

Warriors of Chaos?
Big guys in armour on foot.
Most of the Daemons are gone now so you could have a pure human force if you wanted. If I remember right the Daemon selection is pretty much Daemon Prince and the Hell Cannon.

Chaos Warriors?
I don't think any fantasy army has better heavy foot than Chaos Warriors. And you get to back it up with 1st class heavy cav, and auxiliary troops (Marauder foot and cav).
If the skull and spike thing puts you off - just model it your way. Put the humans on 25mm bases and you should be good to go. There are plenty of other figure lines that could build out a Chaos army without being "chaosy".

I did consider Chaos, but I have to be honest I am not a huge fan of, well, Chaos. So you are saying it is possible to build a viable force whilst ignoring the more 'chaotic' elements? I realise that whilst I want the central part of the force to be heavy infantry I would need some support elements, what options are there with Warriors of Chaos? Sell it to me!
Cheers for any help,

Edit; ninja'd by RanTheCid. Thanks for the input! May have to pop into GW and have a browse of the army book. Anyone else got other ideas?

Wargames Factory, Warlord and Gripping Beast make plastic Vikings/Saxons, Celts, Ancient Germans. Any or all of these could be marauders.
For Hero type Warriors with a fantasy feel:
Avatar of War, Red Box
Or browse thru Fatization. They carry a variety of miniature lines.

Fenryll has a chaos line. Many of their figs are in a different vision of chaos.

Its a shame The Empire and Bretonnia lost the option to field Reiksguard on foot and dismounted knights several edition ago. They had some really nice models despite there age.
What about Dwarfs? Most of there troops have heavy armour or better. You could proxy foot knights as them. No knights on horse back though.

Dwarven infantry is more of a support system for the artillery battery than an independent force. Lizardmen have a good set of heavy infantry also - but it would be harder to rep the list as human.

yeah after chaos warriors you're looking at lizardmen. both of which are high level armies. Possibly look at dark elves or high elves but I haven't looked at them.
