So after laughing a bit every time i heard a new ork rule (SAG, Zzap Guns, Ramshackle vehicles etc) I've decided to finally give the greenskins a try. I'm brand new to the Orky way of things but would consider myself an experienced 40k-er.
This time around I'm trying to keep things simple (ie: cheap) as in the past I've just bought whatever models looked like fun and built (usually un-effective) army lists around those. This time I'd rather come up with a potent list that can be built fr cheap. So, at my disposal right now are 2 sets of the AoBR Orks, a deff dread and a mek with SAG. Where should I go from here?
This is the part where people complain about "how can we help if we don't know what kind of list you're building, green tide? Mech? Speed freaks?"
That leads to my biggest question.... which of those builds is going to be the most cost-effective to get about 1500 points. Part of me is leaning towards the green tide simply because you can get such good prices one the AoBR mobs of boys.
I guess im not looking for a "buy this"-type answer as much as im actually looking for a discussion on what makes sense to have. Are battle force boxes worth it? If I'm running green tide will the trukk and bikers go to waste?
Let me know your thoughts guys!
Thanks in advance! Automatically Appended Next Post: Is this maybe in the wrong area? Surely someone has some input or advice?

Okay, there's basically four builds to look at: battlewagons trukks footsloggers footsloggers with kan wall For a foot slog army you're going to want shoota boyz rather than the aobr slugga boyz. Costs on these armies done right is about the same. If I had to pick one as the cheapest it'd be trukks providing you can sell the warbikers from the battleforce.

You're going to want the actual Nob box in there. With it you can make 5 incredibly badass Nobz, and build up your other Nobz. There's bits in there for 3 power klaws, 4 uge choppas, and all kinds of other gubbinz.
The battleforce isn't really worth it unless you want to use absolutely everything. The trukk is nice, and more boyz is nice, but unless you really want the bikerz, I'd avoid it. Also, you'll probably want to get some regular Ork Boyz boxes, since the Black Reach Boyz get really repetitive and kinda silly looking. You should have a roughly 1:1 ratio of shoota to slugga boyz.
If you do run green tide, you could probably still have a bit of support with a few mobs of Boyz in trukks. 4 squads of 30 boyz and 2 squads of Boyz in trukks would be pretty flexible.
You can't go wrong with Orks.

the number of models you can run with orks still amazes me...
I was expecting to need a box of Nobz... if not for a unit of Nobz by themselves, then to at least bolster a mob of boyz. I agree that having a ton of the AoBR orks would start to look silly, they aren't what you'd call.. imaginitavely posed. Conversion work doesnt scare me so I'd be willing to hack them apart if it meant keeping costs down.
Thanks for the input, I'll definitely start looking into getting a few solid groups of boyz. Getting two battleforce boxes and a box of nobz might not be a bad way to go while maelstrom games is having thier sale....

I'm also looking into starting Orks personally, as a fun, cheap and easy distraction from other things and my Space Wolves.
Personally I'm leaning towards mechanised (mix of trucks and wagons) for both cost and effectiveness. But yeah, I will also be using the AOBR box as a start but I think I'll only stick to one as I would prefer more diversity then what it can provide.
I'd argue the green tide to be the most expensive (at a glance atleast) particularly with your average 30-boy unit costing £36 rrp

If the only vehicles in your army is a pair of AV10 trukks they're dead on first turn. Lascannons and similar have nothing else worth shooting at and poof.
Trukks are only useful if you have lots or if you have a bunch of battlewagons that need shooting first.
