hey Dakka...

here is my latest commission work...
this is another example of my basic commission standard, with the extra freehand option...

the side views can be seen in the gallery submission here:

http://coolminiornot.com/250965

the way the weapons stick out has made it difficult to get a standard 4 angles...
i will put up a collage of the details later...
for now i just wanted to show off my work before it goes in the mail...

the mini is a mix of parts from Marneus Calgar in Termie armor, a Grey Knight Termie Psycannon, the Termie Librarian Force Weapon arm, the Company Champion helmet, and a halberd head from an unknown source...
not a whole lot of conversion work was needed for these parts to fit together, though i did need to sculpt over the spot for the ammo feeds in his back...
unfortunately, the censers from the Dark Angels kit cover my sculpting work...

hope you like him...

thanks for lookin'...

cheers
jah

Dude............................................ This is incredible work. I love the freehand on the chest/shoulder pauldron, the weapon blade, the weapon hilt, the cloak...... well, you get the picture. The one irk that I have is the yellow on the outside of the cloak. It sort of clashes. I might have done it in white, but still amazing work jah.

My God, I think I just crapped myself a little bit.
That mini is sweeeeet dude! That Nemesis halberd is simply beautiful.

I can't believe that this took little conversion work, unless you are a sculptor of ridiculous ability.

I can't wait for more pics, and more like this, will rate highly

That is AMAZING.

But I officially have ONE nitpick.

I can tell it was Calgar before you said it, because there is still the Ultramarine symbol on his crotch. The way you painted it took attention away from it, but it is still an Ultramarine symbol on a Grey Knight.

I thik the only way I would have noticed it's the Ultramarines' "U" (and not a heraldic shield) is because I know there's a "U" on Calgar's crotch. I don't really think it stands out enough to be a problem.

If he was an Ultra, he would be disgraced and sent to the warp for going against the Codex (gawd I hate UM fluff).

This my friends, is a crotch shield for when he plays cricket. Duh!

Seriously, I love this mini.

thanks guys...
a lot of hard work went into this mini, so i'm happy that it paid off...

@DarkAngelsRK: i did think about painting the freehand on the back of the cloak in white, but i figured that since i have yellow on the cables and blade, that yellow on the cape would not be out of place...
i don't think black and white would have looked as good...
the red and white on the front works well though...

@Space_Potato: there is actually very little conversion/sculpting that needed to be done...
most of the parts went together nicely...

i had to sculpt some soft armor joins at the shoulders, as the shoulder pad rims prevented a snug fit...
the ammo feed boxes were cut off the back and covered with Greenstuff, and then sculpted to follow the flow of the cloak...
the censers had a little extra rope sculpted so it looks like they wrap around the chain...
the spot where the halberd joins the staff needed a little plug sculpted to join the cable on top to the halberd head...
finally, all of the Ultra jewlery had the "U" cuts filled in so they would just look like discs...

it sounds like a lot of work, but it was really just little simple jobs that didn't involve a whole lot of precision...

@Mattlov: the Ultra shield on his crotch actually had the grooves filled in to make it a solid shield...
unfortunately, after i painted it, the placement of the chains on the side, and the black dividing line between the red and white make the optical illusion of a "U"...
DOH!!!
what a drag...

the customer is very happy, so that's the most important part...

thanks again, all...

cheers

Great model! Any tips on how you painted the metal?

8000 points of XI Legion the Space Vagabonds, they can adapt their tactics to represent any and every Legion and Chapter as needed because they were created by the Emperor to be the ultimate tactical power. They have faked their disappearance in order to infiltrate every part of the conflicts in the galaxy.

8000 points of Tau/Craftworld Eldar/Necron because the Space Vagabonds can also emulate their wargear and tactics.

Victories: ALL
Losses: NONE (My armies have the psychic ability to conjure a cataclysmic storm whenever they are about to lose. This allows the Space Vagabonds to teleport away while releasing power waves that destroys the battlefield and so every battle is a victory)

Yeah that is a sweet model....the halberd is from the Blessing of Vengeance from Warmachine. The only reason I know this is cause I gave the owner of this model the halberd.

hey Dakka...

i've put a full write-up on my blog on how i built and painted my Grey Knight Grandmaster...
there are no step-by-step pics, as i don't have time to stop for each stage when i'm on the clock...

hopefully the list of colors i've used, and the thoughts behind my choices, are helpful...

i had a lot of fun trying out new things on this guy, most of which were successful...
a couple things...not so much...

please have a look and let me know what you think of the article:
