First of all, this is not for me. This is for a friend of mine =) (Im still deciding between the WH and the DH )

So, which army is stronger and easier to play, sw or bt?

And could you guys add some pros and cons?

Thanks in advance ^^

SWs are more competitive and easier to play, but that doesn't mean that BT are bad as althought their codex is old it's still holds up well.

SWs-
More competitive
Balanced army
lots of styles

BT
Not hugely difficult to learn to play
Very nice models
Can be competitive in some builds (LR spam is tough to beat)

If your friend is a beginner, I would recommend him/her SW, as it's a more recent codex and so it will be easier to understand. No outdated rules.

But I voted BT, because if I voted anything else I would not deserve to be a BT!

Don't forget the Emperor's Champion is pretty good.

I supose it comes down to what they want in the end as they're both going to have that learning stage anyway.

Black Templars are the first Space Marine Chapter/army I ever used. My opinion is going to be biased because I've never played or even seen SW deployed.

Templars trade the balance of a regular chapter for the ability to adapt to unique roles.
- Templars are good in assault, I've had a templar chaplain stand toe to toe with Old One Eye(a nid Special char)
- Templars can adapt to a shooty role very easy. Between cheap heavy weapons like lascannons for 15pts, to having 5 man plasma cannon squads shredding enemy infantry.
- Templars use Vows, which vow you use can change the whole flavor of your army. Accept any challenge, no matter the odds, is a vow that allows Templars to hit on a 3+ in close combat.
- Templars have a very easy paint scheme. They require little work at all to look good in a group, allowing you to finish a Templar army in no time.

For competitiveness and ease of play, SW beat BT hands down. It's not even close.

That said, imo BT have a lot better fluff and way more stylish models and paint schemes.

Agreed. I really need to get some BT models before they go the way of the Diaz daemonettes.
