Per the BRB pg 48, a IC that has bodyguards (retinue), etc losses it's IC status and becomes an upgrade character.

I believe Dante's Death Mask nerf versus ICs would not function. Correct?

That would seem to be correct, yes.

Although an increasingly rare issue...

Yes, an IC with a Retinue cannot be affected by the Death Mask thingy it seems.

IMHO I think that it would still apply even if the IC did have a retinue.

IC's are labeled as such in their respective codex, and if you or your opponent are using that codex then you took them with that knowledge.

This seems kinda like skimming by on a technicality to me if you try and say they arent an IC anymore....

How is playing but the rules skimming by on a technicality? Take DE for instance, if an Archon has a Retinue then by the rules he is no longer an IC.

Is not allowing your opponent to fire Lascannons if the squad they are in moves "skimming by on a technicality"?

For some reason I was thinking Special Characters and not IC.

So ignore my previous post, as i am clearly wrong.

Incorrect. BRB, p48. ICs who are part of a retinue are considered 'upgrade characters', not ICs, until the retinue is destroyed.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!
