1500 points on the nose.

A quick note about my list: The Power sword on the Plasmavet Squad is because I'm running Karskin Models (one of the reasons I have carapace armor), and I want to have a fully WYSIWYG army, and the Karskin sarge has a powersword.

Additionally, the Extra Armor on the Meltavet Squad is so they don't get stopped partway to their target due to a shaken result on the Chimera.

Hell

Your vehicles are going to deal some damage to your enemies, but that's all. Guard infantry either need Chimeras (or any transport at all) or just more of them overall. You've went overzealous on the upgrades for one vet squad, but barely enough for another. Also, special weapons need to be relatively able to do the same thing if you want vehicles or infantry dead in a heartbeat.

Cheers!

So maybe add a flamer to one of the squads?
All the inf are in Chimeras, the one squad that's not goes into the Vendetta.

Hey Gavo,

Here are my suggestions:

Ditch the extra armor and the carapace armor and the power sword. I know you want WYSIWYG, but those are honestly a waste of points. No one will care if you don't use that stuff, although it is of course up to you.

Buy another Chimera with the points saved for the Melta vet squad. You don't have to deploy them in it, you can put them in the Vendetta at your discretion. If you also ditch the demolitions upgrade, you can squeeze out another 30 points.

I don't care for the plasma cannons on the russ's as they don't compliment the battle cannon. If you switch those to heavy bolters, you save another 40 points, which nets you 140 total.

That is enough to purchase another vendetta if you wish, or another chimera as stated above plus a vet squad with 3 flamers.

Either way you really increase your damage out put. It is nearly always better to have more units than to marginally increase the units you have. By stacking points onto a unit you make it more of a loss if it gets destroyed.

By having more units that are cheaper but nearly as powerful, you have more damage output, more defense through redundancy and the loss of any one unit is not so damaging to you.

Remember, 2 tanks is four times better then 1, not just twice as good. That is far better than to increase the efficiency of a unit by a marginal amount with expensive upgrades.

@ Reecius: Thanks, I'll keep this in mind when I buy my new units. Unfortunately, that won't be until mid-summer.

So for now, drop the Carapace, Extra Armor (x2), and and Power Sword. That's 70 points, enough for another vet Squad. Drop demolitions, that's 30 more, so enough for some special weapons.

The switches you said sound really good, thanks a lot. I'll do it when I grab another vendetta. Speaking of them, how do unmanned Vendettas (no vets inside) do? would they deploy normally or go in for outflank?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually, new plan, the second squad of meltavets grabs a ride in a second vendetta, the empty chimera goes to a PBS. That's scaling up to 1750ish points now.

That is a good plan you have there.

I use unmanned vendettas frequently as gunships. They start on board if you go first, off board if you go second against a shooty army. I usually only put a 30 point special weapon squad in mine just to make them scoring, I don't like keeping a vet squad off table inside of one. I typically don't like to get my Vendettas anywhere near enough the enemy to have the squad inside jump out. I like to keep them out on a flank at max range taking side armor shots. They are just too juicy of a target if they get close.

A PBS in a chimera is ALWAYS a good play. They are useful against any army type, and you can make a squad of them cheap using fantasy models, flagellants work well.

Good luck with it!
