Basecoat black, then add a thin layer of boltgun, then some codex grey, then feather in some black or midnight blue. Dark Angles with snot green highlights for eyes.

Always wanted to do something with that and nids.

I have a friend who used metallic paints on his Tyranids....don't do it, for the love of the Emperor, don't do it...anywho, I've painted up one Tyranid (My Tervigon ) and always thought that it would make an amazing scheme for an army! Grey skin with Orange strips, and tan carapace with Orange breaking up the plainness of the colour.

Good luck, and post some pictures when you've made a decision!

I feel your pain. I keep changing the color scheme i want to use for my nids. Usually I will start with a color scheme but end up with a totally different one. I agree with the previous post of no metallics. Nids do not need to be metallic. They can be shiny like slime imo. Maybe a slimy green body with a brownish carapace? or a Red Carapce with a dark gray body? Too many choices.

my favorite was blood red with magenta ink (it took some work to get this looking right though) on the body and vile green with dark green ink for the carapace.. unfortunately I don't they make any of those colors except blood red now.

It is difficult to show you a painted model of a scheme that has never been done before
Anyway you can browse www.coolminiornot.com .
In my sig you find my project log of a rare painting scheme, that can be painted quite fast (the official Ouroboros scheme first featured in IA4).

I always think Nids look best in a relatively simple colour scheme. (that said, Granesh's beastie above is awesome), Id try a pale-ish colour for the bodies, washed with an ink to give definition & horrible squelchiness, & a darker complimenting colour for the armour plates, finished off with a nice gloss varnish.

or have a look at the crapaces of real beetles, Ive seen some really nice 'nid armies that mimic actual bugs. Usually black with a bright warning colour.
