Homeland Security officials said that the troops would provide support to law enforcement officers already working along the border by helping observe and monitor traffic between official crossing points, and would help analyze trafficking patterns in hopes of intercepting illegal drug shipments. They performed similar tasks in an earlier deployment along the border from 2006 to 2008, when they also assisted with road and fence construction. The troops have not been involved directly in intercepting border crossers.
Interesting.

I am going back to america in 2012, and this present a rather unique problem for me. You see I happen to know large portions of Americas sordid past with republic building and forcing the ceding of territory, particularly Mexico, in the so called Mexican American War.
Whenever I see the Mexicans trying to get into America I always feel pity for them, its like being thrown out of a house and then watching as someone hosts a party in there...
On the plus side, this gives me something to defend against the frequent claims of "You Brits were horrible to your people and colonies etc etc."
Oh, and a final compulsive addition, WE ABOLISHED SLAVERY FIRRRRRST!
I'm sorry, I know that has no relation to the topic, its a compulsion... I need Historical Correction Rehab or something...

Its window dressing and an absolute joke. These are mostly desk jockeys. Bush did the exact same thing. Next he'll say we've secured the border and now need to amnesty for the 20MM already here. Its the Bush playbook.

I dunno I think its a good thing, The US-Mexican border is a real problem spot. At certain spots it is the most dangerous place in the country to be in Law Enforcement.
Also, I hope we do this with America's Attic next, good ol Canada

Yeah that photo was taken right at the start off the Iraq war, m aybe March 2003? I remember it well cos it was on the front of our Corps Magazine.
The underfunding wasnt as bad as people made out though, i just think that it caught people by suprise, i mean, lets be honest, none of us expected to be marching into Iraq! It was nothing like the UN mandated war in Afghanistan.
I literally got told in December "oh were invading iraq" and i thought.. "huh?" and then 6 weeks later we were all confused in Kuwait going "whats happening?" while the news said "will invade, wont invade, will invade, wont invade" over and over for about 6 weeks.. and then one night "your going in" and we fly in and secure the oil pipelines before the "shock and awe" starts...
Anyway, that story is best saved for the pub, but to cut a long story short, yeah we all had to share kit for a while, and i had to wear my Black Leather boots for 8 weeks before i got some desert ones, but it wasnt THAT bad. I think it took them maybe 3 months, but after that kit and equipment was fine, and by 2006 they were positively throwing gear at me.
My brother always jokes "no wonder they have no body armour, YOU have it all in our fething attic!" due to the hordes of gear ive got at home..
Oh and two respirators, just in case i need to deal with an NBC attack!

I dont know exactly, but they arent well armorued vehicles like Vikings or Warriors. They are open topped, so just like an orc trukk i bet you could assault the same turn you got out of one, or alternatively, you can jump out and grab people and yank them into the vehicle, i think thats why they called it a "snatch" wagon?
We once had a lecture off some high ranking political woman and she said "i get my hands dirty as well you know boys, i did an evasive driving course and i know my way around a snatch"
cue 600 men...
"waaahheeey!!"

The border's total length is 3169 km (1969 miles),
so there will be one soldier every 1.6 miles?
won't they get lonesome
oh of course not as long as they can speak Spanish

Yeah I remember them days. Got an ear full about the oil pipelines.
Once the war is over I guess the troops can train on the border and take the load off of law enforcement. You can put the whole army down there, and it won't stop drugs until you stop the holly-wood coke parties and suburb drug use. People will just take to the waterways to get here. As long as Companies can hire them without getting in any trouble. But it makes people happy so....

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole |
