Subject: List of Interesting Rules Interactions

This list was somewhat inspired from the Fun RAW List, but with a different idea in mind. I am interested to see what interesting rules interactions that people have come accross that make you sit down and think for a minute, "Huh that's an interesting way of those two (or more) rules interacting."
To start the ball rolling on this from my own experience from today:
The interaction of the Tau Position Relay and an IG Officer of the Fleet. Because the Position Relay is not a reserve roll, the OoF modification to reserve rolls does not apply. If however a unit of Kroot were to be declared outflanking and coming on the board through the Positional Relay, the OoF would still allow the die for outflanking side to be rerolled.
Edit:
Although this is meant to be a list of rules interactions as RAW is a big part of how certain rules interact I expect there to be an amount of rules discussions, but please try to not take it into the realm of RAW silliness. There is already a thread for such discussions.

The Positional relay is still a reserve roll, a 2 rolled(lowered by 1 to a 1) is still a fail; OotF modification Does indeed apply.
But I did bring one of these up earlier this week with a Wolf tooth necklace vs Terrifying Visage(Necron flayed ones) Both set you melee to-hits at different values.
We have decided that the Flayed Ones requirement of a Leadership test makes it a more specific rule so if the Wolf in question fails the visage takes effect overriding the necklace's benefit.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

The arbitrary rule of thumb is that when two effects give different results, one being beneficial and the other being detrimental, they cancel each other out.
Eldar Rune of Witnessing (roll +1d6, choose two lowest) and (iirc) Tyranid Shadow in the Warp (roll +1d6, choose two highest) would become roll as normal instead of rolling 4d6, removing two extremes.
All effects which has you re-roll hits at the same time as re-rolling misses work the same way, but with more logic since otherwise it would be the logical equivalent of "roll the dice once, disregard the result and re-roll the entire roll"
I assume Wolftooth Necklace and Flayed thingymajig set the chance to hit at slightly different values than the extremes, but I'd still say that they'd cancel each other provided you failed the LD check.
---
RAW says, paraquoted, "you may never re-roll a re-roll". That is, unless the rules doesn't specifically state you re-roll. The Eldar Vibro Cannon, provided you have three Vibro Cannons in a squad, has you "roll one dice per cannon, and if at least one of them hit ...". While this is, practically, exactly the same as re-rolling the to-hit dice up to two times, it is still allowed since you're told to roll them all at the same time and make a selection.

That isnt the general rule of thumb though - fortune (reroll failed saves) and nullzone (reroll passed inv saves) do NOT cancel each other out, as this could allow a reroll from another source to apply.
The old Shadow in the Warp was ruled to cancel out Runes, but this FAQ ruling no longer applies as the power has changed.
So no, no "general" rule that they cancel, only a single one that I can find!

No the new shadow in the warp rule is roll 3D6 perils on double 1s or 6s – for a casting results of 3-18.
Edit: that would mean a runeseer within shadow range would most likely roll 4D6 and pick the lowest 3

Of course it doesn't cancel out other effects! Rules of thumb aren't exactly RAW, though I concede I may be wrong in that it should be used as a rule of thumb, but this is how I read it and it makes a tonne of sense.
For the RAW fun thread, you could add Fortune and Nullzone, I suppose, unless you have sort of simplicty or common sense ruling. Does it *really* make sense that you're supposed to make a roll, pick up all failed saves and re-roll them, pick up all succeded saves from the first roll and re-roll them, too? All this does is basically force you to re-roll the *entire* roll regardless of it's result.

Yea thats actually quite funny, i guess thats why it made its way in the silly RAW thread in the first place.

I've always used the solution GW once recommeded. Roll for it each time to see which takes precedence for that turn and that turn only.

That sounds good, in which FAQ is it?

There is also an Old White Dwarf which says that models with the Mark of the Wulfen get 9001 Thunderhammer attacks.
White Dwarf is not to be trusted IMO.
