Would the Shadow in the Warp block out the Astronimican (sp)

Yep.

I think it would depend on the size of the fleet, although its certainly possible (even probable). As a side note, According to the Tyranid Codex, the Astronomican is actually serving as a beacon to the tyranids.

As said, it would need to be a pretty gigantic Hive Fleet. Fortunately, the Tyranids aren't short on numbers at the moment (and they certainly won't once the Octavius Orks have been consumed).

Terra has never really faced a threat like this before. The Horus Heresy was a massive surprise assault conducted with half of the Imperium's Legions spread across thhe galaxy, and other than a Necron raid on Mars that's about all that's happened.

Terra is probably the hardest nut to crack in the entire galaxy (short of invading the entire Eye of Terror), but if any race could do it then it's the Tyranids. Plus... consider how the Imperium would react. Everyone* falls back to protect the Emperor, leaving the rest of the galaxy more vulnerable than ever before. That's the sort of plight the Imperium is unlikely to recover from.

*Obviously not 'everyone', but you know it would be a much greater concentration of force than we saw at Armageddon or Cadia, and both of those wars drained worlds across the whole galaxy...

If the 'nids reached Terra? We'd see us an Emperor strain of Tyranid. They can make new strains out of DNA they consume, and the Emperor is no different.

The new strain would possess the abilities of 'stealing STCs' and 'child abuse'.
