I'm just posting this so I can comment on a couple things and maybe get a little constructive discussion going in a particular direction.
GEEZ the IG codex is big, my armies gone thru so many different ideas....and I havent even built it yet.
1)Ogryn's, I like 'em....sue me. 6 of them in a Chimera may not be the smartest use of points but it sure is fun and gives your army definite character. Maybe you'd drop them from a list, but if you were FORCED to take them...how would you support them?
2)what's people's opinion on open topped autocannon sentinals?
3)I see everyone who DOES use leman russes using the specialist ones instead of the standard LRBT. The more I look at the different versions, the more I think that the BEST "Varient" version is the basic one with heavy bolters all 'round with Pask driving. Support him with other basic LRBT's and you've got a plan...and saved points.
4)Hellhounds? Success or failure stories?
5)Deathstrike. The new model makes me happy in the pants. How do I include one? Is more than one needed for running them? Your opinions?
6)How many Chimera chassis would you say are needed in 1850 for a solid mech list? Hybrid? How do you arm them.
7)Something I DONT see people trying much is min sized Stormtroopers with 2XMelta using the deepstrike option. I wonder why? People seem ok with deepstriking BA's and melta. This unit is cheaper, can bring more meltaGUNS at this size and is a little more reliable at deepstriking than your normal deepstriker. Seems like a neat unit to take out a big armoured threat...one who's transport doesnt have to make it across the board.

1)Not sure. Don't use them and don't plan on using them. If you like them go for it.
2)I like the scout sentinels. I'm currently putting together a future IG build for 1850 and plan on using the scout sentinels as an alpha strike on side armor with their scout move.
3)I like the basic Leman Russ. Magnetize and play around with the different options and see what works best. BS 3 isn't bad when you're dealing with pie plates or lots of shots.
4) I like the idea of these. I don't like the cost points wise or money wise. The banewolf you can move 12" and fire all weapons since the poisoned weapon is S1 and therefore defensive.
5) Like the model but I'd rather have Medusas or other artillery. Maybe in an apoc game where range is a larger factor.
6) 6? It's hard to say. Buy a chimera or valkyrie/vendetta transport for everything you can. Every squad needs a ride of some kind. Vets in airborne copters are better bets. A platoon with a crap load of chimeras is tough to kill. Also think of the fact that you can load up heavy weapon squads into chimeras and effectively make chimeras a fortified heavy weapons platform of missile launchers, autocannons or lascannons.

1) no opinion, don't use them. and not temped. just me, though.
2 )Love them. as long as i have the points and the FA slot open. they suffer from competing with Vendettas.
3) i usually use 2 Russes(HHB only) in a squadron. have had lots of fun with them.
4) same as the Sentinels. although a new list i'm working on will have a Banewolf or 2.
5) Just use it 'til you need glasses then... . seriously, i love the Manticore, Hydras and Russes WAY too much to rotate a Death Strike in.
i just don't see using one..
6) 4- 6 for me. and in more of a Hybrid role.

Boom! Leman Russ Commander

1) Never used them. Their weakness is running from CR though, so maybe support them with someone granting stubborn (commissar lord or straken)
2) Scout sentinels are really cool. IMO, autocannon/multilaser or heavy flamer is the only way to run them. They are not near as effective as the vendetta of course, but they are a decent unit. Can work pretty well as roadblocks, and they have a lot of tactical flexibility.
3) Pask is very expensive, and the LRMBT is not the best place for him. Plasma sponsons are also way superior to heavy bolters when you are going for sponsons. LRMBT + plasma is a very nice tank at 190pts
4) They are good, IMO, it's a 50/50 choice between HH and BW, luckily, the main weapon is easy to change. In a squadron of two, the HH's are superior IMO. I'm personally thinking about putting multimelta on the HH's for some nice dual use, not sure if it is worth the pts though, playtesting will show
5) Never played it, but Manticore is clearly superior (and the model is better IMO)
6) I have 10ish (AV12 vehicles, only 3 chimeras) at 1500. Would probably have some more at 1850 + some russ hulls.

1) I spent weeks converting a squad of cyber-ogryn for the last codex, so I used them in several games in this edition, and they ran and died in every attempt while causing little damage. the are stubborn, but with a 7 Ld they run in a heartbeat. the only way to make them better is to stick a Lord Commissar or better, Yarrik with them.
2) I like the concept of the Sentinels, but I haven't used them to often, usually outflanking w/autocannon. Seems to work okay.
3)I'm a big fan of the standard Russ with the heavy bolter sponsons, although I like to slap the plasma sponsons on somtimes too. Being able to enfilade fire with the BC is a pretty good perk.
4) I love the Hellhound. I've rarely been disappointed with one. Tack on a MM and you have a fast and flexible combat unit with good staying power and a high threat ratio.
5) Never used one, I'd like to, but. . .tough to justify the points on a maybe.
6) I typically have 1 per every 250-300pts or so. I play a combined arms style army though, so it's not true mech.
7) I have used the drop in Death-Drop Stormies many times. I have to say they usually get more than their points back, but always die in a hurry. It's not really worth it in a Kill Point game, but I used two at Ard Boys last year and they won my third game for me by killing 2 Soulgrinders and a squad of bloodcrushers.

1) Give them a Chimera and put a primaris Psyker with them to offset the Ld 7 problem. Now they' re a Ld 9 Stubborn T5 Unit that can deliver 4 Force weapon attacks. Yarrick with them becomes a powerhouse and will smash many things apart.
2) I love my tin cans! I usually outflank them to protect them in the first few rounds and then get rear shots on enemy armour.
3) I don't like the basic Russ sorry. For me it's Demolishers, Executioners and Vanquishers...
4) The Devildog plays ....differently. You hide it behind cover and then move 6" pivot and relase hell? I "ll take two please...
5) I Want my guns to fire as soon as the enemy is in range. No Deathstrike then.
6) At least 6. Depends on the content. Psycker squad gets HB+ ML, Veterans get ML+ HF
7) I use them. I like them. They deep strike accurately and carry enough Melta to kill something. Plus they 're cheap.

1. I take ogryns 60% of the time, almost always to cover the pocket I leave behind in my deployment zone, they have a good shot at defending your rear armor. Id say no chimera, that way they're not an easy shot.
2. Always go scout over armored cause chances are theyre going to find your side anyway. I go lascannons because they are unexpected and roll deep with my chimeras providing cover.
3. Basic Russ is the best because I dont feel bad when they die, and I can max them out with plasma sponsoons for the same price.
4. Just got my first one, I'll let you know. I play against csm and meq so I will go with the chem can.
5. ?
6. ?
7 Really only wanted to answer this question... Love em. Take 2 5 man squads w/ meltas and youve got your insurance policy.

1) cant support them
2) the real power of the IG codex is the fast units, i think filling one of these slots would be a wast of a FA unit
3) i like the EXE as well, but yes the LRBT is still prob the best
4) i love hellhounds, well i run bane wolfs, very powerfull timplet wep
5) leave the teathstrike to apoc games
6) i wouldnt have any less then 5, i run 7 at that cost
7) they arnt scoring, thats all

1)Ahh... the good ol' bullet soak. I agree with above poster about running them with some form of Commissar, because of the low LD. Yarrick is a logical choice because he too can be a bullet soak, and he can open up transports for them as well.
2)Sure, it keeps the sentinels cheap and lets them attack from the enemy's weak side. I'd only take one squadron at most and leave the rest for valks or hellhounds (although, if you were to take a gunline I imagine three squadrons of them would be a pretty effective counter-punch, if only they were scoring!).
3)I don't like to use heavy bolters on mine, but yes I used regular LRBTs most of the time. I instead add a lascannon, which allows it to hurt AV14 if needed, and run multiples. At least 2. I don't usually take pask, but putting him in an Executioner is fun just for the sheer amount of fairly-accurate plasma blasts he can put out, which count as S8 on vehicles or MCs. Too bad that variant can cost upwards of 250 points if you add the bells and whistles.
4)I've been trying a bane wolf lately, but even being a fast vehicle it is rare that it makes it close enough to hose anything down for me. Maybe running multiples would help, but I'm reluctant to give up more points for a tank that is only good against infantry or MCs. Add the multi-melta if you want to dual-purpose it, but that seems to be a waste of points IMO.
5)Manticore is a better bet. It is more reliable, and you can use it more than once.
6)Solid mech list? As many as you can fit squads into. I run at least 3, with supporting valks and vends. I would run more if I had them. If you are going hybrid, I would still say 3 or so. 3 is a pretty solid number, it isn't too few or too many.
7)I leave the meltas to the vets, but that is only because I like utilizing the AP3 to take down heavy-armored infantry like MEQs. I will usually put GLs if I'm feeling cheap, or Plasma if I am feeling generous. They usually make their points back if I can DS them behind a Devestator squad or a Long Fangs squad.
