Well, the rules for tanks look pretty nifty (and completely dis-proportionate to the points cost usually associated with gaining two to five USRs) and then I got to the one, singular, solitary monstrous creature entry.

Rage. That was all it took to make the one MC entry, one of two that the nids could use, completely and utterly worthless. Why? Why add rage? Why not just make them able to run and shoot one weapon... with perhaps JUST furious charge? Was it too much to ask that my carnifexes do something other than chase cars all game?!

The other rules look fine (although, again, their points costs certainly do not) and add something interesting to the game for all those mechanized players out there. I would be worried though if only one player chose to use a spearhead formation, I'm fairly certain both players would need something with that level of points/power efficiency to have a fairly even match up.

Riddle me this: what has four sides, moves twelve inches, and moved fourteen?

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Frankly, Spearhead as a whole is pointless to me. Most of us don't own dozens upon dozens of tanks or monstrous creatures that we will now utilize in Spearhead formations; we buy our armies in sizes we can actually use, such as 2000 point lists. Some are collectors or have several different lists in army, myself included (7k worth of orks), but that doesn't mean I can slap it together into this type of game and I'm certainly not going to run out and buy a bunch of extra dreads, battlewagons, or Forgeworld just to play Spearhead.

*shrug*

This is such an obvious attempt to sell more tank models by GW that it's more ridiculous than interesting. I will personally be shocked if I see ANYONE playing Spearhead at a store with entirely their own models, except for that one random spoiled brat that's in every store with $5000 worth of stuff. Much more likely, people will cobble together a list out of their own and their friends' stuff, play a couple games, never touch Spearhead again.

The mass attack spearhead actually looks interesting to me, especially if the 6 troops units you get are separate from the 6 in the standard FOC (at least that's the way the PDF looked to me).

12 units of 30 boyz each...that's a whole lot of Ork.

Its simple: overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.

Well my apocalypse army consists of:
4 Vanquishers
4 Leman Russ Battle Tanks
2 Punnishers
1 Demolisher
1 Execuitioner
3 Manacores
1 Shadowsword
1 Marauder Bommer

So im really happy for spearhead to say the least! And im not a spoiled brat i have a job and buy all my own 40k! I think its a great idea and see no problems with it! Looks alot better than planetstrike or the battle missions!
