I'm trying to get a commission painting service running, as are a number of other Dakka members. However, there's no really good way to show this off. Commission painting is limited to one thread in the Swap Shop (stickied or not, I had to have it pointed out to me when I offered my services) and the occasional person in the painting and modeling forum asking somebody to paint their stuff. What I'm wondering is if there's any better way to give commission painters their due? A possible subforum of the painting and modeling forum? This would make it easier to find painters, as right now a big thread full of posts from painters and clients is a bit of a fustercluck. It would be easier if commission painters could post what they're willing to paint, to what standard, where they are, and so on. For instance, something like:

"USA, will paint SM, WoC, IG, Tabletop Standard"
"USA, ICs only, GD standard"
And so on. This way painters could have entire threads dedicated to their commission work, where potential customers could check out what they have conveniently before buying. They would have to post their usual prices in their first post with some pictures showing what they can do. Customers can leave feedback in the thread and get updates on what's being painted.

Anyway, that's just my suggestion on how to give commission painters a little more exposure. Let me know what you think.

I have been evaluating options for a while now. Something will happen to help commission painters, but it is very sticky ground due to the liabilities involved and huge number of scammers out there.

They could buy banners on our site.

I mean, we do allow quite a bit of free exposure on Dakka, but at some point if people really want to get their name out there beyond that there then they should be purchasing advertising.

Our prices for advertising are pretty darn reasonable.

I agree with the banners, more money for Dakka - Good.

Then you could open a thread that only sponsors can start topics in.

Did you guys know Canada has a friggin desert?

yeah, that sounds good, but perhaps there should be a DSW commision forum and a regular DSW forum so it would be easier to find a commisoner? (thats how you spell it right?)

You're not playing the game like I play it...why aren't you playing the game like I play it?! O_O

A subforum is a decent idea, but it's true- liabilities/scammers would make it a sticky thing. I've hired a number of commission painters from the painting services list, and most recently from someone who just made a post offering their services in the swap shop (that one is ongoing). So it does work, at least a bit!
