My groups have always played 500, 1,000, 1200, 1500 and 2000 point games. But now that I've started hitting online 40K websites and forums, I'm seeing a lot of 1750 point games. Just out of curiosity, why is this total so popular? Is it now considered the optimal or something? The "1750" is the strangest part to me. Does 50 points make that much of a difference?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

Yes. Yes it does. It allows you to take another important chunk of stuff than in 1.5k, but doesn't make it as large as 2k.

Very fun. Most tournies use it. I use. A lot of people use it.

It's good timewise and gives you "wiggle room" for your list building.

1750 is right in between 1500 and 2000.

Alot of people think 1500 pt games are too small, but alot of 2000 point games cant be finished in a regular tournament time slot. So, a happy medium of 1750 is used

Makes more sense than the 1850's

I used to love playing 1.5K it was a real tough points limit you were really fored to think hard about what you took, never having enough points for everything, but normally enough for something special.

2K I find too large, it takes ages to get a game done, and there's too much choice, I often find newer players like it, but don't utilise everything well.

1750 Works so well, you still have choices but just that little bit more fun available to you.

I like it because i can slip in a LR into my 1500 point list without too much math and readjusting my list.

lol 1750 is not as wierd as 1850 which is what alot of tournaments in my area use.

Yeah when I was playing in Beijing with a French guy he'd never even heard of 1850 and wondered where I got that number.

I think it came from GTs. IIRC they were originally 1500 but for one battle it would go up to 1750 or 1850. In time 1850 became the standard in the US.

Yeah I have never understood 1850 either.

1750 is nice, but I tend to end up playing more 1500 or 2000 than 1750.

I appreciate the information, gang. I'll have to give 1750 a whirl soon and see if it's the sweet spot for my group as well.

It's a compromise between 1500 and 2000. A good compromise, at that.

2000 seems to be the standard here, it's where most of the new armies are "balanced" towards.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

1750 is generally considered a point value where most, if not all, armies can be reasonably competitive with each other. It's a level that compromises between the cheap horde/deathstar armies that can dominate lower games and the high-end, high-powered armies that appear at 2K and up.
