Subject: Looking for competitive Eldar list

Deadly Dire Avenger

I am looking for a competitive eldar list for tournaments 1000-2000 pref, as i have not done one and dont know the normal point range for one. I really like harlequins and wraithlord/wraithguard, Now they army doesn't have to have both but i would like one or the other.

Before the litany of 5-man dire avenger squads in a wave serpent lists come up, let me advocate for the foot-dar list.
HQ - Eldrad
HQ - Avatar
EL - Harlequins
TR - Dire Avengers
TR - Guardians w/ lance
TR - Guardians w/ lance
TR - Guardians w/ missile
TR - Guardians w/ missile
FA - Warp Spiders (sometimes)
HV - Wraithlord
HV - Wraithlord
HV - Wraithlord (maybe 3 warwalkers)
The heart of the list is Eldrad, Avatar, and at least 3 Guardian squads with str 8 heavy weapons. Some of the other units vary depending on the player. There usually isn't any armor except for warwalkers sometimes.
Now you will have a slough of posters who will poo-poo the foot-dar list and say you can only mount everything in vehicles. The results don't bare this tactic out as several veteran 40k players have had great success with this type of list.
I find this tyoe of list more rewarding, both in collecting and painting (since you have a variety of units), but also more versatile and resilient in gameplay.

I agree with Darthdiggler, I ran a mechdar list last year at ardboyz, did well and had fun but this year I ran a variation the footdar/hybrid list he is mentioning and not only did I win but it was more fun.
Don't think you have to go all or nothing with vehicles, for instance my mostly footdar list also had 2 decked avenger squads in serpents for mobility. There is something to be said for a solid backbone of fearless cheap troopers like guardians, yeah there squishy alone but 30-40 of them peppering a doomed target tends to turn heads when the dice start rolling. Also as he said, Eldrad is key hear, use his buffing powers to guide, doom and fortune the Avatar if you think he is likely to be targeted (I would target him).
The mech list is fun too, don't get me wrong but for me the most prominent fluffy units in the book, the Avatar, the farseer and the civilian troops forced to take up arms or be wiped out adds character to the list and over time your overall tactics will increase instead of just zooming around hoping to not be shot down before the last turn so you can grab objectives.

Meh, I have had alot of competition success with my mechdar. That last minute objective grab is just icing on the cake, the seer council is what destroys half the opponents army!
