Would it make sense? like it would be that you get 4 shots up to 12" or 2 up to max range if havn't moved. Main gun that came to mind when i think of rapid fire 2 would be a lasgun on full-auto.

I think rapid fire is fine as is. Yes lasguns are terrible but the trade-off is you have a ton on them.

Took out one whole squad of necron warriors

 1500pt O'Vesa Star W: 27 D: 2 L: 1
The challenge: in a 1500pt game I will play 900pt + D6x100 pts, if I roll a 6 I reroll and -100 to that second number (down to 1000pt minimum)

Well, not from a balance pov. But wouldn't it make sense to have them be able to go full-auto and get rapid fire two(and still be able to get FRFSRF) but run out of ammo then?

Most lasgun patterns aren't able to go full auto but, the way shooting rapid fire works, it isn't the troops just shooting off two shots. It's merely representing the amount of effective fire that can cause casualties. Or in some cases fewer shots at a longer range because they need to spend time aiming.

Yeah. Neither most lasgun models nor most bolter models are rapid fire.

Really? With around 180 guys within 12", all firing frfsrf, you'll get about 15 necrons killed. Must have been remarkable dice.
