The rules say you can always fire through friendly units. Do vehicles count? I can't find any rule that says vehicles are an exception to this. So can a unit of SM draw a line of site through a Rhino from their own army?

The rules say nothing of the sort.

They say you can shoot though members of your own unit. That's it. Friendly models block LOS the same way enemy ones do.

Ahh, you are correct. I re-read the section and found where I made the error. That makes much more sense.

I have a question on this...what about over or under your own units. Two senarios

1. Tau Broadside firing over a unit of Firewarriors. The boradside stands head and chest over the firewarriors so they are not really blocking any LOS. I've always played it that the firewarriors give a 4+ cover save to anything the broadside is firing at...but since LOS for infantry is based on the broadside's head and the FW arn't obstructing any of that i'm thinking i might be playing that wrong...The firewarriors would give the Broadside cover from incomming fire but not outgoing?

2. Firewarriors firing under a Devil fish skimmer. Again i've played it the skimmer gives 4+ cover both ways (its tall enough to be over their heads so they can see under it) but i'm thinking now the DF doesn't give cover at all if both sides can see the full models...

VoxDei, your answers are the same as for just about every LOS question that pops up on the forums. You use the actual LOS from the firer to the target. If the target is partially obscured, they get a cover save. If no part of the target is obscured, they don't.

TLoS means that you basically have to look in every instance and see for yourself, there is no cut-and-dry method.

Deffkoptas, on their flying bases, can draw line of sight over screening units when positioned properly. If they are too far away, the line goes through the screen. Again, it's a case-by-case basis.

Same would apply for your broadsides. Makes them a little better now, since they themselves can be obscured from the firewarriors but shoot over them.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

You know, that raises another question: A group of Boyz who just disembarked from a Trukk. They are all within 2" of the Trukk and all in b2b contact with either the trukk or other Boyz. Can the entire unit of Boyz shoot at an enemy unit, some shooting over the back of the Trukk since it's open-topped? I picture Orks resting their elbows on the flatbed of the rear of the trukk to get a clear shot.. but realize realism has no place in these discussions.

The truck being open-topped has no bearing whatsoever on LOS. If the boys can see the target, they can shoot at it.

/agree. It really is that simple. If the model can see the enemy, it can shoot. If it cannot see the enemy, it can't shoot. I've always wondered why this concept is so hard to grasp.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

There was a subtantial thread on here with someone claiming that a vehicles weapons could see through the vehicle they're mounted on since the vehicle is a part of it's own unit....
