Okay, I'm not sure why, but I kind of want to get into Laserburn.
Anyone have any suggestions? It looks really cool, the scale is something I'm not used to but the background seems familiar enough that I could easily get into it. (What with GW stealing it and all, haha)
Is it any good? I've heard that it's a tad confusing with all of the percentage charts but I'm sure that it can't be too bad.
Thanks!

It is designed as a fairly complex role-playing combat resolution system. There are lots of modifiers for range and moving target and so on. It can be used successfully for larger battles if you cut down the number of options.
Much like 40K, since that went the same route from Rogue Trader to the modern game.
Don't count on getting loads of fluff. The 'background' is about a page long.
15mm is a good scale for SF. Figures are cheap and quick to paint. You can easily make a couple of small armies and rty them out with a variety of rules.
There are plenty of other rule-sets on the market apart from Laserburn.
I'm not terribly interested in laserburn, except in as much as I've heard that it's author also contributed to the birth of 40k.
However, I do have Alien Squad Leader and a few Laserburn Imperial Troopers on the way from 15mm.uk right now. I'll post my impressions when they arrive.
TMP is definitely the place to go to find out about Laseburn and other less common games, but the Laserburn group and 15mm Sci-Fi groups on Yahoo have a fair number of pictures of painted laserburn figs.

Nice, please do. They look pretty detailed. However right now I am having model ADD so while I want to buy a bunch of Laserburn models, I also am looking to buy a ton of the Ral Partha chaos models. Don't know why, hahaha
But the starter set looks sweet, 64 minis and 6 vehicles. I'd also probably buy some Red Redemptionists and some Imperial Troopers.
Yeah, please let me know how they look. Pictures would also be very nice!

Be carefull, those troops in the pictures are sold as "Imperial Troopers" The bulkier "power armor" troops are cool as well, but they are available in fewer poses.
I plan to use the "troopers" as power armor, and if I need regular IG style troops, I'll get them from one of the many other lines out there.
I've got my shippment of Laserburn: Imperial troopers, HOF: Retained knights, a variety of other figs, and the ASQL 2.0 rules.
No camera, so no pics yet but a few impressions of the power armored figs I recieved.
Laserburn figs:
http://www.15mm.co.uk/Imperial_Troopers.htm Imperial Troopers- Pretty much what I expected from the linked review in my earlier post. Neat old-school space marine types. A few of them show signs of old molds, but nothing too bad. I recieved some troopers with various weapons and a commander figure with a cape.
- "Black Guard" trooper. Got one of these. It's hard to tell from the website, but they actually have a different helmet type and small skulls on thier knee pads.
-Power armor troopers and Dreadnought: These are of comparable size and rather Terminator-ish. They are noticibly larger than the other troopers. They really look like proto-Dreadnought armor.
Here's a page I found with some great pictures of Laserburn stuff.
http://javieratwar.blogspot.com/search/label/Gallery.%2015%20mm. The pictures of figures in the second post are:
Imperial Troopers
Mercenaries
Police (judge Dredd'ish)
Black Guard
Power Armor and 4 Dreadnaughts
Figs from the Mercenaries, Adventurers and Star soldiers, and Starship Crew figure lines.
HOF: These are 15mm versions of the classic Alternative Armies figs.
http://www.15mm.co.uk/Retained_Knights.htm Retained Knights:
These look like futuristic knights in power armor. They are noticibly taller than the Laserburn figs, and have slimmer proportions. They would also look great in a steampunk setting. I purchased the command set which has 10 figures in 5 poses and includes a neat commander in a cloak that would make a great 15mm scale 40k librarian.
The quality was slightly better than that of the Laserburn figures. Oddly, all the figures in the pack had thin bases except for one pose which had a base that was nearly as thick as a GW slottabase.
Thoughts on both ranges compared:
At this point I'm a bit torn, I like both ranges, but they really aren't size, or style compatible. I'm seriously considering building a space marine army in 15mm. For that I'd probaly go with the Laserburn figs (with a few HOF as charachters) as they are a bit closer to what I envision as early 40k asthetic.
That said, the retained knights have such neat charahter, that I'll likely come up with some excuse for painting up some of these as well.
I'll post later with a brief review of the other figures (including space orks!) I recieved and the Alien Squad Leader 2.0 rules.

I had thought about that, but the trouble was that it's two diferent sizes for humans. If I dive into this 15mm thing, I may make two opposing forces. While they don't look good in the same force, I see no problem with humans from worlds with different gravities having different heights.
Also, in Alien Squad Leader, there's an army list called Victorian Imperial, and they have a unit called mechanical soldier (sort of a Victorian-sci-fi clockwork power armor) and the HOF Retained knights would fit the bill perfectly.
I got some 15mm Sci Fi minis from a different company.
I made a video of the minis
I won't be using Laserburn rules though
I am thinking of using 40k rules and just right my own stats for the minis.
