Im planning on starting a marines chapter that, as opposed to other chapters, actually respects the guard as a fighting force. This is because of a strong tie between the chapter and its homeworld's guard regiments. These ties go as far as the two forces operating together often on the battlefield, with the marines providing support to the larger IG force. They will share similar color schemes. Any fluff ideas are welcome.

Is this feasible

Oh, and this combination will really only work in apoc games

Very feasible I'd imagine. The Ultramarines and White Consuls have very strong ties to the the military forces raised on the systems they're charged to watch over for example. The BL novel Dark Creed has the Consuls honoring some regiment for bravery and nearly getting wiped out, so they gave them a new regimental banner. (Kinda lousy trade for nearly dying to a man imho haha)

I would say yes and I have a similar fluff chapter that respects the regiments raised from the system that it controls.

Just a side note. Adaptus Astratas worlds do not contribute to guard regiments. They only have a PDF.

pretty neat idea, but you have to understand that a Space marine would probably never consider the guardsman an equal. It would be pretty neat to see something beyond the fluffs, "i'm a big ole spehss mahreen, i hate puny guards man, hurr durr"

Imperial Recruit in Training

Somewhere between sanity and the asylum.

It would make sense for it to be a fleet based chapeter, IMO. Most of the chapters that have their own world are respectful of the inhabitants, as they are the future of the chapter, but don't really give a stuff about anyone else. Fleet based chapters, however, have to essentially perform "drive-thru" recruitments on whatever world is nearby and suitable, either random or scheduled. I think that certain guardsmen would provide excellent stock for marines, especially thpse from the Schola Progenium or other speciaised training academies.

If it was me coming up with the fluff, i would go for something like a campaign in which both marines and guard fought side-by-side, and impressed by the skills of the guardsmen (relative, of course), the marines, without a regular recruiting world, closely monitor and assist that particular guard regiment, both honouring their ancient alliance and common cause, as well as securing a secure source of initaites. In the hope of being noticed, the guard would fight even harder, and it is not beyond imagination that the two could have a mutual respect.

Just my two cents.

Plenty of chapters value IG as a fighting force... just most of them don't.
SW for instance repect anyone willing to fight for the Emperor. So anyone pointing a gun at the bad guys is their friend.

The 12th Regement of my IG is also my SM 12 company, which they do their selection from. Some Guardsmen will serve with them for years until finally being allowed to become a Space Marine.

the 10th Brotherhood of my marines is also made of guardsmen, though they aren't technically under the same chain of command, they are considered apart of the chapter in terms of respect. The primary role is more of a company of combat engineers as they generally drop in once there is a trail of broken orks from the marines and build fortified positions so any retreat by the marines will end in them hunkering down with a few thousand lasgun troopers in a key position. It's nice to have a home when things go sour after all.

Stuff hits the fan the marines retreat and lay traps and hit and run tactics until they are dead or reach the fortified area. Then they hop in and take positions and the guard get to blast away at the enemy in sync with the bolter fire.

Other than that, drop troopers are ftw.

Totally do-able. Thats the beauty of making your own army.

I just started an IG army myself, and have a whole backstory where my Dark Angels 2nd founding has been blackmailed by an Inquisitor to be his personal strike force, and the Inquisitors chosen home planets population have come to worship the DAs as gods, imitating their tactics and some visual decorations (swords have become popular, as have the angelic wings theme).

Go crazy, and have fun.

BTW instead of using Col Iron Hand model (ugly as sin, plus I hate the Catachan model range) I'm using a space marine model, again showing the cooperation/use them to their own ends/whatever.

Since we're sharing.
My chapter has nothing to do with either IG or PDF but that's because their are none left on their homeworld... or home system come to think of it.

York/London(for weekends) oh for the glory of the british rail industry

Nearly all chapters live on planets without PDFs or IG reg, being either the sole planets protector or the humans present are in a barbaric state, however some do.

Alot of chapters either value skilled IG or see them as good humans (without respecting them) for fighting the enemies of the Emperor.

@camboyaz: that really goes against the codex astrates, the IG would have to start the alterations, otherwise they would be to old once they have proved themselves and being trained to fight as an IG goes against any SM fighting style

@combatmedic: according to the DA codex that inquisitor would disappear, an unforgiven chapter would be backed up by all the other unforgiven as well, its been kept a secret for a reason.

its safe to say that relictors are the greatest army a man , nay human can own.

Ol' Blighty

the raven guard respect their IG regiments. I like the whole space-bound idea. Try having them nearly wiped out (say down to a few companies) and IG nearly getting wiped out (a few companies again) and having them fight side-by-side and winning. They then thought "these guys aren't half bad" and regularly fighting.

I figured that, but had a whole counter to that for where not only is the chapter master ashamed that he let his parent chapter down and would do anything to keep that a secret at well, but the Inquisitor who is blackmailing the chapter would have his many associates spread across the galaxy reveal their secret should he suddenly die or go missing, thus the reason the chapter wishes to keep him alive while in battle.

I think this could be material for a run up to a second heresy and lead to the Dark Angels turning renegade. Cool fluff though.
