And now it has come for my 360, which bricked on me yesterday. RROD, and well out of warranty to boot.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

RROD death has vastly extended warranty so they could avoid a class action lawsuit. Get on the xbox website and see if you can get a free replacement.

Yeah a lot of people could probably get money from a lawsuit. I mean it's not a mystery why it happens.
1. Video card is gak.
2. Video card must overclock.
3. That makes video card REALLY HOT if it does it too much.
4. 360 randomly breaks after CPU falls out from melted holdy-things.

If gak goes wrong it's your own damn fault!

In your base, ignoring your logic.

What if you get hacked? Surely you did that to yourself as well?

Yes, in a word. You didn't make your passwords strong enough or you used flawed software.

You did manufacture every bit of the computer itself then? Did you also program every single process your computer uses?

What does hardware have to do with anything?

And no, I did not program it all.

I have, however, taken every possible step to prevent unauthorized access to my data.

I use a Debian Based Linux OS, which in itself is not only more secure, but also has a bit of Security via Obscurity (not banking on that though).
Unlike Microsoft or Apples software, Linux is (for the most part) open source software, which means that anyone, anywhere can analyse it for security flaws, and unlike Microsoft and Apple who only issue sporodic updates (Microsoft does it once a month, "Patch Tuesday", followed by "Exploit Wednesday"), my flavour of Linux gets updates pretty much every day.
My Files are all encrypted using the native Linux encryption protocols and my backup drive is encrypted with Truecrypt with a 20+ character password with a triple cascade encryption.
I have a system policy in place where anything with any sort of elevated privileges needs my root password (again, 20+ long).
I do not use weak passwords on my email, Dakka or any other account.
I also use Firefox with the NoScript Plugin, thereby bypassing a good 99% of possible routes for "infection".

In short, if you take precautions, you shouldn't get "hacked". If someone DOES manage to hack me, I'll have to find the dude and ask him which nations are bankrolling him, because there is not a snowballs chance in a microwave oven in hell that he could get into me on his own.

The fact is this then, if something does happen it is not entirely your fault as you did not make the pc from scratch. No one can say that it was entirely their fault that their computer is messed up.

You did not originate the idea of linux(I think unless you are that guy who did) nor did you make the chips/processors for your computer. You did not create or program firefox as well.

Although I am riskier than you (I surf the web on explorer with no virus protection!) if something does happen it is not entirely my fault. After all, I did not make the program that infected my pc did I? Someone else designed it and infected my computer with it.

Yes, but I have done everything possible to prevent my system being compromised. Therefore, in the VERY unlikely event that it is compromised (which involves either me suddenly becoming an Enemy of China or having a gun put to my head), It is not my fault because there was nothing I could have done to prevent it.

That is why I said PC gaming is better.

Geeze man, it was a lighthearted, offhand comment (especially since I despise Microsoft ALMOST as much as Apple). Who widdled in your wheatabix this morning!

I just don't like people who are all like "Well your xbox is broken, should've played on PC.".

There is no superior gaming platform, just ones that are preferred. I prefer a PS3 for my FPS and a PC for my RTS although I have interchanged those.

I use a laptop which is hard to upgrade by adding new graphics cards etc, and I don't care enough to get a desktop that I have to upgrade and maintain.
