Let's say I have 12 Boyz with shootas in the back of a dedicated Trukk. The Trukk slides up close (4") to a group of Marines and all the Boyz disembark. Since it's open-topped they all pile out and surround the Trukk. Some of the Boyz are between the Trukk and the Marines, some are at the rear and have a clear line of site just like the ones I just mentioned. A few however are behind the Trukk with the Trukk between the Boyz and Marines...

(B= Boyz, T=Trukk, M=Marines)

Can the Boyz that have the Trukk between them and the Marines fire in the shooting phase? Also, is the Trukk considered part of the unit since it was bought as a dedicated vehicle? When does it stop being part of the unit if it is since the codex says it can be used with any unit once the deployed unit has disembarked? Since it's open-topped it seems as if the Boyz could easily shoot over or around it especially if in B2B contact with it.

The trukk becomes a seperate unit once the Orks pile out of the trukk. Using that, you must remember that TLOS is being used, so the Orks would not be able to fire as the boyz are no long in the trukk and do not have TLOS to the unit being shot.

The trukk is ALWAYS a separate unit, even if they are embarked.

As Such, the Trukk will block LoS as normal.

Vehicles are always their own unit. Dedicated Transport is a special rule that some vehicles have that specifically, and only means that the unit for which the dedicated transport was bought can be the only unit starting in that vehicle. The unit with the dedicated transport even start disembarked from DT, but no other unit can start embarked in it.
Open topped has nothing to do with line of site, only damage tables and rules on assaulting after disembarking.

Use True Line Of Site (TLOS) Trukks are so ramshackle that I would find it very difficult for a unit to have it's line of site completely blocked. It's difficult to tell from your diagram if the majority of the boys can see the mariens completly unhindered. In the case of complex coversaves just like this, rules recomend dropping the 4+ to a 5+ cover save. (Although, your shooting them with boyz, so I would assume they would just use their armour).

In short, no problem shooting them. Open topped dosn't influence firing through or around a vehicle, neither does Dedicated Transport mean that the vehicle is part of the Unit (for that same reason, the trukk can shoot at different targets then the boyz)

Bah, I worded my post poorly and the trukk and the unit are separate even when embarked and that is what gives the unit in the vehicle the ability to shoot at a separate unit.

What I meant to say is that now that the unit has disembarked it does not have the benefits of the shooting anywhere from the vehicle and must follow the TLOS...
