*Note* I apologize for the lack of pictures. I will be uploading them when I get home tonight, just wanted to get some of this typed out because it's my first battle report and I didn't know how long it was going to take to write it. So, check back!

Hey all! My buddy and I got together of the holiday weekend to duke it out with a mission from the Battle Missions book. We decided to just roll a random mission and see what came up, and we rolled Pre-Emptive Strike (an Eldar mission). We diced off to see who would be the Eldar for the mission and my buddy (playing the Marines) won the roll.

The setup for this mission split the table in half and allowed each side to deploy anywhere in there half 9" away from the center line (an 18" no man's land). The enemy (Orks in this case) had to deploy all of their HQ units within 6" of the center of their half of the board. Everything else in deployment was normal. The scoring was modified annhilation with all "Eldar" (Space Marine) units being worth 2KP while the Orks units varied in value for 3 KP per HQ unit, 1 KP for troops and dedicated transports, and 2 KP for all others. So, on to the lists!

Deployment
We set up the gameboard with 2 small hills in the corner on one side and a big hill on the other side. We rolled randomly for the amount of terrain and got 5 pieces. The Marines placed the first piece which was a defense line around the perimeter of the big hill. The Orks placed the Temple of Skulls in the middle of the side with the 2 hills, marines place a bastion in the plain on the side with the big hill, orks place a ruin in front of a small hill and finally the marines put out a second defense line on the other small hill. Marines win the roll for side choice and choose the side with the 2 small hills.

Marines deploy scouts in the ruins (which the MotF bolsters), a predator and the land raider between the ruin and temple, the shooty dread in the temple with the ironclad right in front of it and his other predator and razorback find themselves between the temple and the other small hill, the combat squaded tac marines find themselves on the slope of the small hill.

Orks respond by deploying both HQ battle wagons dead center of their deployment zone (per the scenario rules), small loota squad in bastion, big loota squad behind the defense line, trukks a few inches away from the KFF wagon, a unit of warbuggies between them and the other 2 units of buggies set up on the other side of the big hill.

The marines move the scouts up just slightly in the ruins (with their scout move), the orks fail to seize, and the game begins!

Turn 1

A cool day, just before dawn on planet Taures V, advance marine scouts report the presence of none other than Ghazghull Thraka and his trusted Big Mek Wirtzak were marshalling a great host, not more than 20 miles from Taures Hive. "Sir, we can catch them with their pants around their ankles if we strike now," Scout Sgt. Markus reported. "You may be correct, Sgt. Markus, I'll summon the battle brothers, gather your scouts and set up near the orks. We shall purge them from this planet!" Master of the Forge Septimus replied. "Yes sir!"

Septimus set about gathering what marines he could find and notified the cruiser that was in orbit. They responded that a tactical squad and a dreadnought would be dispatched to the location with due haste. Septimus got into his personal razorback with his retinue of tactical marines and headed off to the battlefield...

The marines drop their first pod. In an incredibly risky move, he puts his pod a mere 6" - 8" from the board edge, hoping to catch the lootas behind the defense line with out cover. He rolls scatter and it sticks! The tac squad disgorges from the drop pod, and prepares to "light up" the lootas. All of his tanks rumble forward and the tac squad moves with them. Shooting sees the scouts not able to spot the warbuggies, his predator, however, lights them up, but fails to get any meaningful shots in on them. The tac squad that podded in light up the lootas and rapid fire them to shreds wiping them off the planet. Other uneventful shooting happens as his shooty dread lights up Ghazzy's wagon, but the combined might of the rest of his shooting doesn't even put a dent in his ride.

At the bottom of Turn 1, the orks roar to life. Ghazzy's wagon revs it's engine and deff rollas through the tac squad and their drop pod, exploding the pod and killing two marines, Ghazzy jumps out to flex his power klaw muscles on the surviving marines. The warbuggies on the ork left, shoot forward 13" to get shots at the predator that's lit up due to it's search light. The big mek and the two buggies also move up 13" to the middle of the field, while the 3 trukks split off to the ork right. The boys and mek pile out of their wagon right in front of the ironclad, two of the ork trukks let their passengers out in front of the predator and razorback. In the shooting phase, the lootas in the bastion roll a 3 for their deffguns and let hot lead fly across the field into the predator, the way it had turned to get shots at the warbuggies left its side armor exposed and it exploded in the great hail of gunfire. The rokkit buggies drew bead on the land raider and their rokkits plinked off the heavy armor to no effect. In the middle of the field, the other buggies let loose at the dread in the temple, and again their rokkits didn't scratch the paint. Ghazzy opened up with his big shoota into the tac squad, and one marine fell under the bosses powerful gun. In the assault phase, Ghazzy roared into combat with the combat squad, their rifle butts and fists failing to hurt the ork big boss while the seargents power sword was defelected by the orks power klaw. Ghazghull then struck back, cutting a swath through the marines, killing four of them. In the middle of the field, the boys charged into the marine vehicles. One mob of trukk boys was able to explode the other predator and the resulting blast killed half a dozen boys. The other mob of trukk boys only managed to shake the crew in the razorback, while the big mob managed to rip an arm off the ironclad dread.

End of 1 - Orks 6, Marines 2

Stay tuned for the rest of the report (and pictures)! Thanks for reading!

Report looks good so far. Would really like to see the rest of it with the pics, even though the grey tide of marines may be a bit off putting!

Ipso facto auto-hit.
