I'm attempting to use Lootas for the very first time and am confused by the Mek entry. The codex says that up to 3 Lootas may be upgraded to "Meks" for free. This raises a few questions in my mind. I assume when they say Mek they mean a "Mekboy" and certainly not a "Big Mek." The entry for a Mek is on page 34 and only lists 3 pieces of wargear: Mek's Tools, KFF, Grot Oilers and the Shokk Attack Gun... no sluggas, no shootas, etc. The entry under the Army Lists section on pg. 97 shows in addition to the aforementioned wargear: Slugga or shoota and a Choppa.

Here's where I get confused. The Army List on page 99 for Lootas says the Mek can exchange his Kustom mega-blasta with (1) slugga and choppa (2) big shoota or (3) rokkit launcha. Where did he get the Kustom mega-blasta to begin with since the default is slugga or shoota and choppa? It makes me question if a Mekboy is the same as a Mek or is this just another example of GW not checking their words again?

Look very carefully at p.99 of Codex: Orks. The entry for Lootas details the Meks' profile, and wargear. In fact, a Loota upgraded to a Mek has Mek's Tools and a Kustom Mega-Blasta.

In other words, the default is the Kustom Mega-Blasta.

Seriously, how is this confusing?!

P97 has the Big Mek. The Lootas entry on P99 has everything you need to know about Mek's.

That's what I get for trying to build an army at 2am with insomnia LOL. I missed the Wargear entry for Mek on pg. 99 under the Lootas entry. The confusion comes from generally expecting GW to have made errors in the text I guess. Like they did with the warbikers: On page 104 it says they have 1 wound, on 101 it says 2. I've found a few others too.

That one's covered in the GW FAQ. They have 2W. Nice, huh?
